I have been a patient of Dr. Nobles for nearly 30 years. In 1998 I took a pretty good fall on my husbands boat and in 1999 I flipped over the handle bars of my bicycle. I started having problems with dizziness, migraines, vomiting. After the second fall I began having more frequent migraines and dizziness. The headaches were so bad I would vomit. Then I started to have several other medical issues which included tingling, pins and needles numbness on the left side, bladder problems and the list goes on. Over time Dr. Noble ordered several MRI's, x-rays, blood work and I cant remember what other tests but I am sure there were more. So as the year progressed she could not find anything. I began to think I was crazy. But Dr. Noble told me I was not crazy that there was something wrong. My quality of life was suffering along with the ability to work. Finally after another MRI they found something called syringomyelia which causes holes to develop in your spinal cord called syrinx .When Dr. Noble called to tell me what she had found she said she had not seen this except in medical school and I needed to see a neurosurgeon. She contacted a Dr at JHU. However the cause of that was still unknown. The neurosurgeon worked with Dr. Noble and explained what they were to look for on the MRI. Finally a full diagnosis. I had Arnold Chiari Malformation I with syringomyelia. At this point it was summer 2000. It took almost a year to figure out what was happening to me. The neurosurgeon did my surgery where I had a C1 laminectomy with a dural patch. After some recovery time and OT/PT. My quality of life improved. She believed in me and always listened to me and still does. My point is Dr. Noble never gave up on me and I am eternally grateful that she did not. I think that she is a very knowledgeable physician who cares about her patients. She is like a friend to me and I will be sorry when she decides to retire. However in my book she has earned it. I am not a good writer or story teller. But this is my story.

I don't have a single moment to share. Instead, like a very good GP, Dr Helen Noble, who has been my GP and friend for many years, offers a number of important gifts to the community she serves. And serves if the word. She could be in an urban area, being less connected to the human beings who are her patients and making much more money. Instead, she practices with diligence, kindness, continual research and discretion in our small rural community. Perhaps because she is in a small rural community, she knows her patients both in the examining room, where she takes the time and focus to listen, a gift to the people who depend on her and the habitual practice of a knowledgable and caring physician. She cares and works hard to balance the medial realities with her individual patient's realities, all the while maintaining discretion among the people she knows. It is a burden on a human being, perhaps, but one of the signs of a very good doctor. Recruiting good, caring and skilled general practitioners to a rural community is difficult for all the reasons I mentioned above – lower pay, the demands of a discipline that its both art and science and requires continual learning, the emotional connection to patients while maintaining the dispassionate distance to help them make the best decision in their individual circumstances, and the need to keep one's ears open while keeping one's mouth shut. All the Helen exhibits in spades. She has been a gift to this community and to her patients and for that I give thanks.

Meet Helen A. Noble, MD, FACP

It is my privilege to offer personalized medical care to adults who seek a stable and trusting relationship with their physician. Your health concerns and personal goals will be the focus of my attention as we seek to maximize your well-being and function.

My background in internal medicine, with a subspecialty in geriatrics, has provided me with broad experience of most medical conditions as well as changes that occur with aging. I practice in Chestertown, Maryland on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, a rural community that is within 90 minutes of Baltimore, Washington, DC, Wilmington and Philadelphia. My MDVIP-affiliated practice offers services, including comprehensive, advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests, that go far beyond those found in concierge medicine practices. I have consulting privileges at the Shore Regional Health Hospital in Chestertown where I do visit my patients and maintain an active role providing care at all three skilled care facilities in Chestertown. I am a native English speaker and am able to communicate in French.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.

Because of Dr Noble I am still living. When I was feeling my worst Dr Noble referred me to a cardiologist. I believe had she not done so I would not be living today. Dr Noble not only listens but she cares about her patients. I am blessed to be one of those patients. The older I get the more I thank God for her.
