BOCA RATON, FL May 10, 2007 MDVIP, the breakthrough patient healthcare program committed to setting the gold standard of primary care in the U.S., united some of the most influential health experts to discuss the healthcare crisis in America and, most importantly, solutions at a wellness symposium in Las Vegas on April 27 and 28.
High-profile speakers including 2008 Presidential Candidate and former U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson, and Dr. Arthur Agatston, world-renowned author of The South Beach Heart Program, addressed an audience of 35 physicians to discuss the challenges associated with the current healthcare system, the crippling impact for Americas future, and the critical role of prevention as a vehicle to positive change.
In his keynote address, Thompson attributed the healthcare crisis to the rapidly rising healthcare costs, noting that annual U.S. healthcare expenditures topped $2 trillion in 2005, and will likely double by 2015.
At this rate, Americans will be paralyzed to provide care for those who need it most unless appropriate action is taken now, Thompson warned. The solution, according to him, is simple. By promoting prevention, the focus is on keeping people from getting sick instead of spending approximately $1.5 trillion a year trying to treat illnesses that often could have been avoided, said Thompson, Chairman of the MDVIP Committee for Cost Reduction through Preventive Healthcare.
