My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

I grew up in the Carson Valley, the son of a family physician. I chose to leave and go to medical school with the goal of returning, as a family physician, to the community that raised me. I have been practicing medicine in Carson City, Minden and Gardnerville for over 13 years and have done so with the goal of helping people live happier and more fulfilled lives without health problems getting in the way. As I progress in my career, I have learned that helping to prevent disease is one of the greatest contributors to living healthier.

My passion for wellness was inspired by graduating medical school and feeling overwhelmed physically and mentally. It was at that time that I understood firsthand the value in education and having the tools and resources to address my health issues and help prevent disease.  To this day, I apply these principles in my primary care practice when caring for my patients and helping them enjoy healthier lives for years to come.

As your personal family physician, I believe in patient-centered care and not only treating my patients, but also getting to know them personally, beyond their symptoms.

As a chronic wound care specialist in our region, I also help people avoid irreversible consequences of medical problems, of which many can be prevented. Prevention, however, is an investment of time and energy on the part of a patient. It also requires time on the part of one’s personal physician to provide the tools for success.

My MDVIP‐affiliated practice offers services, including comprehensive, advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests, that go far beyond those found in concierge medicine practices. I also offer conveniences like same‐ or next‐day appointments and the ability for my patients to contact me during and after hours. This individualized and comprehensive approach helps to create collaboration and responsiveness in both your journey toward wellness and when you have an urgent need.

My husband Tony was released from Renown Hospital on Sunday. Dr. Johnson came to see him at home on Tuesday. I used Dr. Johnson years ago at Carson Tahoe in Minden NV. The time he took to explain any medical needs in layman terms was amazing. I learned something new with ever yearly visit. When he left I was beyond sad. Soon learned he joined MDVIP. Well yes I was going to join! Besides all the thorough bloodwork he does which helped me get on track for vitamins I needed he also motivated me to join… See more

I have a cancer called Multiple Myeloma which in generally well-managed. In the summer of 2023 I started experiencing neck pain and this got progressively worse because I had a vitrectomy in my right eye after which I was forced to keep my head facing downwards most of the time. I went to see Dr Johnson and he did a thorough examination, listened to my symptoms and asked about my various… See more

Dr. Johnson was our family doctor when our children were small. When we were able to join his MDVIP we immediately signed up. We are so thankful for many reasons that we did. One of the biggest reasons is our son's health. Our son had struggled for years with abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. Although he had many workups there was never a clear diagnosis, to the point where we wondered if… See more

from Nikky in NV February 11, 2024 for David A. Johnson, MD, FAAFP

When I first went to Dr. Johnson, I thought he was going to be like the dr's I've seen before and dismiss my symptoms. I told him I've been suffering from migraines since I was 5 yrs old. Was diagnosed when I was 10 or 11 yrs old. I thought he'd be like the other dr's and just automatically jump to the conclusion that I was drug seeking without even listening to me… See more

Dr. Johnson exhibits all the qualities reminiscent of days past when a doctor made house calls, was always available to you, is knowledgeable and runs an office that epitomizes his philosophy. The office is responsive to phone calls , follows up as soon as possible and with Dr. Johnson’s directions, orders tests and pertinent appointments. He makes me feel that I am his only patient, always… See more
