My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

I have been practicing medicine for 20 years and since my earliest years in the medical field, I have remained focused on making and keeping my patients as healthy and happy as I can. I work closely with all of my patients to integrate them as active participants in their own health and well-being. I incorporate healthy eating habits, physical activity, and lifestyle choices that can help achieve similar or even better outcomes than those that rely on medication alone. This is a patient-based approach in which I tailor my recommendations to each patient's age, mobility, work schedule and family and social responsibilities.

I have worked in and for major hospitals in New York such as Mount Sinai, Beth Israel, New York Presbyterian, St. Luke's and Columbia as well as being a partner in a private practice. In 2008, I moved from New York City to Florida and worked at Holy Cross Hospital and Memorial Hospital before deciding to pursue my long-term goal of owning my own primary care medical practice. In addition to running my medical practice, I created a successful weight loss program from the ground up and now frequently assist patients to achieve their weight loss goals.

In my MDVIP-affiliated practice, I specialize in internal medicine and work with patients to better manage their health conditions and concerns including everything from Alzheimer's to Zoster. I treat acute (new) conditions, such as rashes, infections, sports and physical injuries and sexually transmitted diseases, as well as chronic (longer term) conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, elevated cholesterol, HIV, dementia, depression and anxiety. My approach in general is one of inclusion. I stay in close contact with specialists and patients to assist with the coordination of medical care.

Testimonials from patients of Dr. Zekser

from Ralph in FL March 13, 2024 for David Zekser, MD

Before I met Dr. Zekser my doctor was Joel Silverman. I thought the world of him and couldn’t imagine a better doctor than him. Unfortunately for him, he had cancer and decided to enjoy the rest of his life spending time with family. I hear his is in total remission and I’m glad for that. Fortunately for me and I’m sure for many patients Dr. Zekser acquired Dr. Silverman’s practice and is now… See more

When I was hospitalized after delivering my first baby, Dr. Zekser was there for me every step of the way. By phone, text, and last minute appointments when I was released, he liased with the hospital doctors, assumed management of my care when I was released, and followed up diligently to make sure I understood our plan of care. I continue to feel like I am in the best possible hands, and… See more

I popped a disc on my back. I was unable to get an appointment with my neurosurgeon. Being in such pain, Dr. Zekser helped me all he could by giving me medication for the pain, something to relieve some of the swelling off the nerve. He went as far as to call the neurosurgeon himself to see me as soon as possible. He also ordered tests for me to have before I saw the surgeon. He called me… See more

December 31, 2022, while on board a cruise ship, I suffered a stroke. Next at the hospitalI was awakened by a nurse telephone in hand. Lo and behold, good hearted Dr Zekser was calling from Florida. He reassured me that I was in good healthcare hands and hospital in the island of Barbados. Dr Zekser then to my knowledge conferred with Dr Godard, my doctor in Barbados. Came back home middle of… See more

When Dr Zekser took over my previous physicians practice he had some pretty big shoes to fill. He has far exceeded those shoes and is truly an amazing Dr. Being a retired RN I can say I have had countless personal and professional interactions with many doctors and I can’t say enough about his excellent assessment skills, his interpersonal communication skills and awesome “bedside manner”. He… See more

In 2006, a sleep study showed that I had sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome. I tried using a CPAP machine for the sleep apnea and my inernist at the time suggested that I take .5 mg of a "muscle relaxant" - klonopine, at night before going to bed to address the restless legs syndrome. The drug seemed to work very well -- I slept like I was dead. After a time on the klonopine I… See more
