My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

As a board-certified family physician, my passion is to provide highly personalized care to each of my patients. My desire is to help all of my patients (regardless of age or current state of health) to optimize their physical and mental well-being, happiness, longevity and productivity. I spend a lot of time with my patients in order to understand how their stressors, nutrition, environment, relationships, activity levels and more affect their health. It is my ability to listen and my desire to truly understand the root cause of a problem that led me to join the MDVIP family. The MDVIP model of healthcare allows for the optimization of the doctor/patient relationship through longer visits, more direct contact with the provider, and shorter wait times for appointments. Similar to conveniences often associated with concierge medicine practices, I also offer same- or next-day appointments that start on time. MDVIP understands that we (the doctor and patient) can work together for the best outcomes when we work as a team to achieve our goals. At Chapel Hill Family Medicine, we will do all of this in a warm and welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff and a commitment towards customer service.

I think it is helpful to know a bit about me personally so that you can understand why and how I practice medicine. My undergraduate degree in Psychology has helped me to understand what makes myself and others tick, and I believe it is an asset in providing quality care to my patients. After graduating medical school, I spent time in the Air Force where I gained leadership skills and a profound respect for our military members. I have a passion for studying nutrition, integrative and complementary medicine in order to broaden my knowledge and to optimize my patients’, my family’s, and my own health. I enjoy being physically active and I encourage my patients to do the same. Finally, I love to teach and to write about health. I believe that knowledge is power and that my job as a doctor is to educate my patients so that they may feel empowered to take control over their own health.

Testimonials from patients of Dr. Burgert

from Mary Louise C in NC March 25, 2024 for Jessica W. Burgert, MD

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Jessica Burgert since December 8, 2020 and she has met and exceeded my expectations. She remembers me and she listens to me. She’s always happy to see me. She gives me the time I need during my appointments, she cures me and she’s always available. I couldn’t ask for anything more! She’s the Best

from Michael in NC March 7, 2024 for Jessica W. Burgert, MD

I am writing to “celebrate” the role that Dr. Jessica Burgert has played in maintaining my good health.

My wife Jacki and I were fortunate to have been members of Jeff Furman’s MDVIP practice for many years prior to his retirement in August 2020. That good fortune continued when Dr. Burgert subsequently took over his practice. Jacki had been diagnosed with the extremely rare… See more

from Hilary in NC February 18, 2024 for Jessica W. Burgert, MD

When my previous GP retired I wasn’t sure I would stay with MDVIP but I decided not to take any action until I met the new doctor.
I found Dr. Burgert to be extremely pleasant and easy to talk to so opted to stay.
She is thoughtful and thorough, and her empathy was especially needed when my daughter died unexpectedly 18 months ago.
I feel I can talk to her about anything and… See more

Dr. Jessica Burgert is a professional whose expertise goes beyond the medical diagnosis. She actively cares for each member of our family (including our adult children and a senior parent) by "being there"...listening and responding no matter the time or day. Our office physical evaluations are very thorough and reassuring as she prepares an individualized health plan to address… See more

from Virginia in NC January 20, 2024 for Jessica W. Burgert, MD

My husband has been an MDVIP member for a number of years and when his doctor, with whom he had a long-time relationship, retired, he wanted me to go with him as an extra set of ears when he met his new doctor. After our first visit, I said, “I want her to be my doctor.” Changing doctors can be a traumatic experience, particularly for older adults, but I observed during subsequent visits… See more

from Rud in NC January 20, 2024 for Jessica W. Burgert, MD

It is only natural that, on first meeting and then on first evaluation/examination, an older male patient would be formal with an much younger female physician. The questions we asked Dr. Burgert sought answers from her as much as they revealed my hopes and needs in a physician. Dr. Burgert was equally formal. There is nothing wrong with formality; it is a customary part of the early… See more

Dr. Burgert and I had discussed additional proactive measures I could take beyond bloodwork to better understand my coronary health. She recommended two tests, one of which insurance didn’t cover that was key. She got the tests scheduled and it identified some issues. She referred me to an excellent cardiologist who ultimately identified significant coronary disease. I got two stents. If Dr… See more
