My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

My philosophy of medicine is to treat patients in the same way I would want any member of my family to be treated. I pride myself on having the ability to listen, get to know my patients as people and involve them in medical decision making. When needed, I send my patients to specialists who I would choose for my own care. I provide primary care, internal medicine and have special interests in cardiovascular health, preventive medicine, diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure), cholesterol disorders and women’s health.

I am one of the few female internal medicine physicians in the Greater Cincinnati area of Ohio offering this concierge-like, personalized healthcare approach. My patients come from all over Cincinnati, including Fairfield, Forest Park and Hamilton, as well as Indian Hill, Blue Ash, Montgomery and Loveland. I even have patients as far south as northern Kentucky. I am a staff physician with Mercy Health Fairfield and pride myself on seeing my own patients if they are hospitalized.

When you need reminding about caring for your health Dr Alter is a cheerleader and advisor. But when you are in crisis you know she is the person you want in charge. At one point when dire consequences were facing me I broke down and it still brings tears to my eyes when I remember her comforting and assuring that we’d get through it. We did because she was willing to do the delve into the… See more

The next week we received a threat from the collection agency. My wife was really upset. We called Dr Alter on a Sunday afternoon afternoon at home. She went to the hospital CEO and had it corrected. Because of family history of heart disease, familial high cholesterol, etc., Dr. Alter had suggested I have a coronary calcium scan. This procedure is not routinely done and not covered by most insurance, but it is fairly inexpensive, so I scheduled the scan. My results/score were alarmingly high, indicating a significant risk for a cardiac event. I scheduled an appointment with a… See more

When I awoke one morning terribly ill, I called my caregiver son. When He got here, he called Dr. Alter . She called the hospital where she is a member and called and said their emergency room was crowded but she called one where she didn't belong and they would take me right away. As soon as we walked in I was entered with the flu for 6 days! I was so sick, I barely remember that day since… See more

In 2010, my husband passed away. Dr. Alter had been our doctor for approximately 15 years. My husband's daughter, who came from New Jersey, needed a form signed by a doctor to take back to work. I called Dr. Alter's office and asked if she would sign. When I arrived, Dr. Alter took me into a room, sat with me as we cried and shared together the loss I was experiencing. All she… See more

I was skiing in Vail, Colorado on a day there was a snow storm called a "white out". I was skiing a double black diamond run called Highline. I ran into a mogul which I did not see. I severed my ACL, tore my MCL, cracked a bone and scraped a bone in my right knee. I had an MRI in the clinic there. I called Dr. Alter and asked her what to do. She said "come home". She… See more
