My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

"The good physician knows his patients through and through, and his knowledge is bought dearly. Time, sympathy, and understanding must be lavishly dispensed, but the reward is to be found in the personal bond which forms the greatest satisfaction of the practice of medicine." – Dr. Francis Weld Peabody, 1927

For me, the challenge and enjoyment of medicine is applying my medical acumen and skills to the individual needs of each patient. In order to accomplish this, I deeply value time spent getting to know each patient and developing a relationship based upon mutual trust and understanding. From almost 20 years of experience in various medical settings, I truly believe that listening to patients is still the most valuable skill acquired in our training and is one of my strengths. I believe that patients know their bodies best and the ability to carefully listen and observe verbal and non-verbal information is invaluable to understanding a patient and delivering optimum care.

As an internist, I feel privileged to see and guide patients through different stages and challenges of life. I strive to keep patients vibrant and well, work hard to educate them about wellness and prevention and help them navigate the complexities of illness and treatment. I recognize and value that sometimes simply listening and holding a hand may be equally as important and comforting to the patient as making a complex diagnosis.

Overall, my goal is to advocate on your behalf and empower you to play an active role in your healthcare. The better I know you, the better I can accomplish this.

Dr. Lisa Fishman, as well as her staff has always been attentive and caring. Urgent care and procedures are always timely if needed, and when I was too busy working, they never stopped reminding me to come in and have my wellness exam.

I had been a patient of her's before she joined MDVIP and I remember going to one of the seminars she had to explain her reasons for leaving her… See more

from Sande in NY February 27, 2024 for Lisa C. Fishman, MD

I came to Dr. Lisa Fishman after feeling a lack of care from three of my doctors. One was my internist of almost forty years, one was a pulmonologist, and one an endocrinologist. Friends of mine recommended her highly. From the minute I met Dr. Fishman, I experienced something completely different. She seemed to genuinely care about my issues, and working with me to find the best course of… See more

Each year when I see Dr Fishman for my amnmual physical I am reminded ( not that I have to be). but it always hits home in a BIG way..that she is such a great doctor.
From the way she handles all my tests, and gathering medical history ( keeping it up to date) to check-ups, office visits, vaccines etc. she and her practice exceed my expectations always. At my annual visit, Dr Fishman… See more

Dr. Fishman is the kind of physician who treats the whole patient. She connects the physical, emotional and lifestyle dots of one's health. In addition to prescribing medicine when necessary, she helps you to help yourself by explaining how your health is impacted by your lifestyle choices. She is smart, caring, compassionate and honest. I trust her completely as for the last 15 years,… See more

from Teresa in NY March 2, 2018 for Lisa C. Fishman, MD

When my primary care physician of 37 or 38 years retired, I felt like my life would never be the same as she had taken such wonderful care of me. The next doctor, whom I paid a concierge fee to, was a big disappointment. I actually left her without knowing whom would be taking care of me. For someone like me, a bilateral breast cancer survivor with serious lymphedema and a heart patient,… See more
