My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

"Wherever the art of Medicine is loved, there is also a love of Humanity."
-Hippocrates

"It is far more important to know what person the disease has than what disease the person has."
-Hippocrates

My practice philosophy is simple; I treat my patients as though you are my family members, and therefore, want the very best for you. I take the time to know who you are; I care about how you feel, how you want to be treated, how you live, and how life has affected you. I cherish having the privilege of being your personal physician, to safeguard and protect your health through major life milestones, each with new goals and challenges. I help you lead a healthy life by focusing on wellness and prevention now, and taking steps to minimize the risk of developing diseases later. I also respect your preferences. I try to explain complicated medical conditions and procedures using language that you and your family will understand. I keep you informed about the various treatment options, and help make a personalized care plan for yourself.

The most satisfying part of my profession is the long-term patient relationships that develop over the years, based on mutual trust and respect. I am fortunate to have worked and trained with some of the best physicians. They have inspired me with their knowledge, kindness, compassion, humility, as well as true dedication to service. In my MDVIP-affiliated practice I will emulate them daily as I try to do now. I keep up-to-date with the latest in medical research and guidelines as the field of medicine is dynamic and continually improving, to be able to give you comprehensive healthcare of the highest quality. I also offer conveniences, like same- or next-day appointments that start on time, which may be found in concierge medicine practices.

I consider myself blessed to live in my adopted hometown of Louisville since 1999. I grew up in India and speak Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu in addition to fluent English. I love being a doctor and feel truly humbled that people trust me to care for them.

Testimonials from patients of Dr. Balakrishna

from Lynn in KY March 12, 2020 for Priya Balakrishna, MD

When I moved from New York to Prospect, KY this past summer, finding an internist was a top priority. After researching online, I found Dr. Priya Balakrishna. My initial visit with her was a natural match and every visit thereafter has provided me with THE most top quality care, both physically and emotionally. I always walk out with a curated plan and as a result, I’m calmer, knowing Dr.… See more

Yes, by the time I was 55, going to the doctor only meant pain, more pain, shame and frustration. Tests that meant nothing, proved nothing, and then being sent to a specialist, who repeated the cycle. At no time until I started seeing Dr. Balakrishna, have I felt that a doctor has actually listened to me. Because of her, I am learning to trust a doctor. I have listened to her advice, followed… See more

Not many people reverse diabetes after 20 years being a diabetic, but I did through the encouragement and care of Dr Balakrishna. Yep, that’s right, I have had no diabetes for over 12 years now. No pills, no insulin shots, completely diabetes free. First, she encouraged me to get into a nutrition class. Following the class, she met with me several times and explained additional food management… See more

Seeing Dr. Balakrishna is like visiting with your best friend. She is so caring and attentive, and easy to relate to. She has a wealth of knowledge, both traditional and non-traditional, about any issue I discuss with her. She's the best!

Dr Balakrishna,
I want to thank you for always showing so much care and concern. You have been much more than a doctor to me. You have been my supporter, therapist, and angel in disguise. I remember the time I called you and you were at the airport getting ready to board a plane and you took time to talk to me and get me an appointment with another doctor. How many doctors would take… See more
