My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

I dreamt of becoming a physician since age five. I could envision myself forming trusting relationships with my patients and treating them as close friends, while guiding them medically to achieve the healthiest life possible. Part of my dream became reality, but part of it was unrealized due to the way traditional medicine is currently practiced. Over time, I have found it more and more difficult to develop valued relationships with my patients and give them optimal medical care. Today’s quick paced, often dismissive, one-size-fits-all health care system has made it nearly impossible for me to be the best physician I can be. This is why I have become an MDVIP-affiliated physician. My MDVIP affiliation allows me the luxury to offer my patients a highly personalized, detailed level of care that is typically only experienced by patients of concierge medicine practice.

I combine my years of clinical experience, evidence-based medicine, as well as the goals and preferences of the patient, to develop an individualized treatment plan. I have been in private practice since 2004 and am board certified in family medicine. I am also board certified in osteopathic manipulative medicine, a set of hands-on techniques used to diagnose, treat and prevent injury of the musculoskeletal system. In addition, I have a strong interest in functional medicine and in treating obesity. Although I ultimately see it as my job to keep patients out of the hospital, I am affiliated with both Maine Medical Center and Mercy Hospital in Portland, Maine. I frequently serve the Maine communities of Westbrook, Gorham, Windham, Portland, South Portland, Scarborough, Buxton, Biddeford and Saco, however, I am humbled to have patients traveling from places as far as New Hampshire and Bangor to see me.

from Paula March 22, 2019 for Rasha Hanafy, DO

I give Dr. Hanafy a 5 star rating! She was my Dr. prior to joining MDVIP and I couldnt ask for a more educated, resourceful, compassionate doctor. It is clear that she loves what she does and cares a great deal about helping her clients. MDVIP has been great thus far and definitely allows Dr. Hanafy to do what she does best, and that is take excellent care of her patients.

I switched to Dr. Hanafy after my MDVIP doctor retired and recommended her to take over my care. I have only met with her a few times, and have been very impressed. One of the things that stands out for me is that she makes videos showing her patients how to correctly perform the exercises she prescribes. I have been to numerous doctors and physical therapists over the years, and she is the… See more
