Recently I was hospitalized for observation. Dr. Shapiro came in on a Saturday to see me although I was being taken care of by the hospital staff. The fact that he took off time from his family to see me although I was being taken care of was beyond the call of duty.
Also he is very good at connecting me with the appropriate specialists if I need one.

My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...
After completing my undergraduate studies at Washington University in St. Louis, I received both my MD and PhD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. The majority of my postgraduate training was at Columbia University Medical Center in New York. After completing an internal medicine residency, I remained on faculty at Columbia for a year where I served as a chief resident in the Department of Medicine. I completed a general cardiology fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City before returning to Columbia for a fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology.
My practice is located in Chevy Chase, Maryland, walking distance from the DC Metro Friendship Heights stop. 24 hour coverage and same-day appointments are tenets of my practice model. I have hospital privileges at Suburban Hospital, Sibley Memorial Hospital and George Washington University Hospital, where I am an Assistant Professor of Medicine. I have been named as a Top Doctor in Washingtonian Magazine since 2014.

Testimonials from patients of Dr. Shapiro
I moved here from NYC 3 years ago and had been unable to find an internist who I liked and who had the personal tome to give me .
I was referred to Dr. Shapiro through a friend and I must say, I am much less anxious knowing I have someone who is sincerely concerned about my Health and the doctors I surround myself with

Scott Shapiro is a consummate professional and always there when I need him. I can reach him whenever I need him, he responds immediately no matter where is he is (last year he was out of the country and still responded to an urgent email within the hour) and he does what is necessary and does not overdo it. My blood pressure was recently elevated and he tried a few regimens until we got it… See more
In July 2015, Dr. Shapiro treated me for Sepsis and Endocarditis. He later inserted a pacemaker in my chest. Because of his extremely competent medical care, I am alive and well.
My wife and I have found him to be very intelligent , caring and personable Doctor..We feel very lucky to have him as our Physician.
My husband and I were involved in a three car collision on I95 in Georgia leaving Florida in advance of hurricane Irma. Although our car was totaled, everyone was able to walk out of their cars and no one needed hospitalization. While trying to secure a rental car to get us back home to Maryland, I called Dr. Shapiro and told him I thought my husband and I should be checked out. His… See more
Scott Shapiro is not only a great physician, but also a great human being. He has the rare combination of excellent medical knowledge and skills and exceptional care and concern for each patient.
Many thanks for the intense personal interest that you invest in your patient relationships. Its as important as the medical component and you understand that so well.
Dr. Shapiro has helped my husband and myself through difficult health situations with his expertise and kindness and patience. His staff has been equally wonderful. Dr. Shapiro is and unusually dedicated physician and we feel very fortunate to have found him.
My life would be very different (or even non-existent) without Dr Shapiros action and keen insight. I feel that I have a very positive and strong relationship with him, and hope that Im granted several more years in his care.
I look upon Dr. Shapiro as a friend as well as my primary care Dr. He is always responsive and shares good advice which I value. It is always a good feeling to have someone you trust in charge of your medical care. Thanks Dr.! Dick Marriott
