My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia and received my undergraduate degree from Princeton University. I returned home to attend medical school at Emory University and completed my internship and residency at Emory's Grady Hospital and affiliated hospitals.

I completed my fellowship in endocrinology at Emory and have practiced medicine for 18 years at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, assisting Piedmont in the development of their Diabetes Resource Center that helps all people with diabetes to lead healthy lives.

As an endocrinologist, I take a multi-disciplinary approach to caring for diabetes, which focuses on decreasing patients' blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as concentrates on motivating patients to adopt healthier lifestyle habits in order to be as healthy and active as possible.

As an internist and personal physician, my knowledge, experience, insight and technical ability all come together when evaluating and treating every patient. My goal is to get to know my patients well beyond their symptoms and help them identify and achieve their goals. In my personalized healthcare practice, my patients and I work together throughout the year to keep them on the path to healthier living. I sincerely care about the well-being of all my patients - I have time to listen, educate and be their advocate. My MDVIP-affiliated practice offers services, including comprehensive, advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests, that go far beyond those found in concierge medicine practices.

In addition to specializing in internal medicine and diabetes, I care for patients with thyroid disorders, metabolic bone disease (osteoporosis), hormone deficiencies and/or excesses resulting from pituitary or adrenal disorders, and I treat problems associated with testosterone deficiency in men.

Testimonials from patients of Dr. Welch

from RosemarybertRosemary in GA March 28, 2020 for N. Spencer Welch, MD

In my opinion, Dr. Welch has another MD and it is in Listening and Patience !!!!!! Dr. Welch has been a part of my family since the early 90's when he was my Mother's doctor, and at that time he was not a member of MDVIP. The care and followup Dr. Welch gave my Mother equaled that of an MDVIP. My Mother passed at 90 years young in 2012 with her diabetes under control and never having to… See more

I can only express the best in regard to Dr. Spencer Welch!! I started seeing him last fall when I was looking for an Endocrinologist who could address the issues I was experiencing with Type 1 diabetes and out of the necessity to find a doctor who would listen and take my issues seriously. I was in need of a knee replacement and had obtained medical clearance from all of my doctors with the… See more

My husband, Richard, and I have been long time patients of Dr. Spencer Welch. During the last few years of his life, my husband made many calls to Dr. Welch for emergency advice and treatment. Dr. Welch always responded quickly and professionally to the needs of Richard’s increasing health problems.

On October 31st, 2019, Richard died of bleeding on the brain at the age of 90. He died… See more

As an older adult, this past year has been a tough one for me. I was diagnosed with both diabetes and breast cancer within a short period of time. Having been through this difficult time, I especially appreciate Dr. Welch's experience, intelligence, and concern. I have great confidence in him and he is always positive and shows his humor by wearing classy bow ties and socks.… See more

Dr. Spencer Welch has been my primary care physician since I joined MDVIP several years ago. Dr Welch is unfailingly kind, compassionate and knowledgeable. He seems to be so grounded and inspires confidence. I consider myself very fortunate to have connected with Dr. Welch. Additionally, Dr. Welch's staff, Maria and Chantal are excellent and a pleasure to work with.

from Sylvia in GA March 10, 2020 for N. Spencer Welch, MD

Dr. Spencer Welch has been my primary physician for several years . I have always felt comfortable with him and felt that he listens to what I have to say and takes me seriously. In January 2016 I saw Dr. Welch for my routine physical. I said I physically felt fine, but "something just doesn't feel right and I can not put my finger on it." Since both sides of my family… See more

I am now facing another surgery but I am thankful to know that I can rely on the caring, capable team. I continue to rely on their skills with confidence and gratitude.

from sandi March 30, 2017 for N. Spencer Welch, MD

Dr. Welch is 1 of 4 endocrinologists I've seen since my diabetes diagnosis 20 years ago. He distinguishes himself in many ways-by conducting office visits with focus and skill, by taking whatever time is needed to make me feel comfortable, and by listening carefully to what I say, to my answers to his questions, and to my questions. He seems to be challenged at each visit to tighten my… See more
