A few months ago I was involved in a motorcycle accident and ended up with broken bones in a hospital far from home. Emergency services took over and I was treated well but without support or consultation with family or friends. When it was determined that surgery was required I was still in a state of shock and agreeing, without consultation, to whatever was being advised. Finally, while being wheeled into an operating room on a Sunday afternoon, I finally "woke up" and became quite anxious in the realization that no-one in my family or even friends knew where I was or what had happened. I didn't doubt that surgery was required just that I was alone and had not contacted anyone about my situation and condition. When I told the surgeon that I was very anxious and wanted to at least contact my doctor at home, he replied that I was holding up the schedule, plus it was unlikely I would reach any doctor on a Sunday afternoon. But I asked if I could please try before going into surgery. They brought me my cell phone and I auto dialed Dr. Frank Landry's cell number, which he answered on the first ring. I, with some emotion, explained the accident and my situation, whereby Dr. Landry spoke at length with the surgeon then assured me that I could proceed with surgery and that I was in good hands. From that moment, Dr. Landry took over the supervision of my care, transfer to a rehabilitation facility and continued to monitor every aspect of my treatment and recovery, which continues almost 6 months later.
