Exactly when I needed medical help, Dr. Scanlon was there

One morning a couple of summers ago, I woke up with the experience of vertigo, something I had never experienced before. Walking was a challenge if I didn't hold onto a wall. I was pale as a ghost and breaking out in sweats. At the time, my primary care physician was affiliated with a medical group at a local university. Although he was a fine person and physician, he was overburdened by the system in which he was working. That day, because of the system in which he was working, there was no way for me to see him. I would have to have gone downtown to their affiliated urgent care place and wait for however long it would take for me to be seen by an MD I had never met before.

That was not going to work for me at all, given the condition I was in at the time. As it happened, my wife was a patient of Dr. Scanlon at MDVIP for some time and had only the best things to say about Dr. Scanlon. So I just decided on the spot that I needed to be seen without any hassles or hours of waiting and was able to see Dr. Scanlon in no time. She did what she needed to do to determine my condition (BPPV if you want to look it up) and then phoned a nearby physical therapy practice and I had an appointment early the very next morning. Everything turned out well.

The most important part of all this is that Dr. Scanlon was there and treated me as a human being in her office, which is not like a bus station, and made my life a great deal better because of her expertise and her humanity.

There are many MDs who are technically excellent but who cannot even make eye contact as one person to another. Dr. Scanlon is technically excellent and is a truly humane human being, a healer. It's great to find an MD who is also a healer. That, to me, makes all the difference and I am grateful to know her and to have her taking care of my health and well being. Three cheers and then some!
