I moved to Colorado in 2009 with my two sons who were very excited to move to Colorado and start a new fun life. My sons and I lived in the town of Logan Utah where Utah State University is located. I studied engineering there with emphasis on Aerospace Technology. I was hired to an Aerospace company that was also based in Utah where I worked on rocket motors for the space shuttle. I eventually had to retire far too early because of a disability, caused by a childhood disease I was born with, that became severe far too young. My disease as a young child was mainly body aches and at times severe leg and foot pain. What I had no clue of knowing was this disease was just toying with me so far. Through my early to late teens my disease let up and allowed me to become quite healthy and very athletic. I was a great snow and even better waterskier. I loved all activities outdoors. I hiked and camped and loved all animals and nature which I still do. I graduated from High school and then I began to have severe tendonitis in my feet, the tendonitis became so bad it moved up to my right knee and very quickly destroyed it. A year later the same happened to my left knee. Now already two surgeries and I am not yet 20 years old. Then the disease really went to work. Before I reached 21 all 10 of my toes were completely dislocated in both joints and fused upwards and half of my fingers were also dislocated. The pain was excruciating. It had moved to nearly every joint in my body. I was terrified and in horrible pain. This was all before diseases like this were understood and very rare at my age. Then the doctors came. I was very young and looked even younger with my baby face. No one had a clue what to do so then started the experimental medication. The first one nearly killed me within that year. My lungs swelled up inside with hives covering the inside until I had nearly no lung capacity left. I was told I would die in less than a month. I married my high school sweetheart and by my 30s had two great kids. I went back to college and started my Aerospace career. The surgeries followed next again at age 25, removing all of my toe joints and over the next 18 month learning to walk again. By the age of 30 my hand surgeries began and even with all of the first surgeries being unbearably painful I really now learned what real pain was. Before long it was just me and my two sons. They were amazing at helping out after a surgery and a hospital stay which eventually turned into many. Not only repairing tendons and joints but 3 more times of being told I would die within a week or a month. I have had every test or procedure they have ever thought of. There were many more surgeries on hands, feet and knees, my back fractured in 2 places because I was not having my bone density watched which is a common side effect from all of the steroids Once I arrived in Colorado I became very depressed again so I looked for a counselor to talk with. After several visits with the counselor we came to the conclusion that I needed help in finding a good doctor so she had a suggestion for one she thought was amazing, “Her words”, And the rest is a miracle story. I went to see the doctor. His name Was DR. MIchael Dunn. He was so caring and most of all he would listen to me and not rush past any questions. I still have my disease but now there is someone who is listening to me and I cannot believe it. I have not had one ambulance ride since I started seeing him and it has been 10 years now. And only 3 emergency room visits. That is a miracle for me and the best part is when I have gone to the emergency room Dr. Dunn calls them and helps decide on a treatment. Since Dr. Dunn has been my doctor, all of my hospital stays have been planned because the problems were caught before it became severe. I had another heart problem only a few years back but unlike before I told Dr. Dunn about the pain and he called and scheduled an appointment with the cardiologists who ran tests and then performed a heart procedure. There have been other surgeries as well. but it was taken care of before it became serious. He always finds me the right specialist and then fills them in with my history which takes so much stress away and makes things so much safer. The thing that has made my situation even better is when Dr.Dunn became a MDVIP doctor. It has taken so much worry and stress from my life to be able to get a hold of him quickly when something is not right. He Gives all of his patients what they need and when. That is why he is such an amazing doctor and even better person. Dr. Dunn has made my life so much better I can hardly comprehend what I did before. Thank you so much Dr. Michael Dunn for giving me a life again. And MDVIP for making it even better.
