I am an MD who, very fortunately, has been seeing Dr Cruz for a number of years. I flew down from North Carolina last year for my annual evaluation and was feeling fine. But during my exam, DR Cruz noted my BP was up and, based on his calculation of my cardiac risk, advised me to get a "calcium score test" when I got back home. Despite no symptoms of coronary disease or anything else, my calcium score turned out to be elevated. He then called me right away and told me to monitor my BP regularly to ensure it stayed under control. He also advised me to start aspirin daily and double my dose of rosuvastatin in order to lower it to the new cholesterol guidelines--which it now is. Because of Dr Cruz's acumen and clinical insight, my care has been optimzed and I feel that Dr Cruz has literally saved my life! For that I will forever be in his debt.

Meet René F. Cruz, MD

I have been practicing internal medicine for over 25 years as a hospitalist, as well as
operating my own primary care office. I believe that many visits to the hospital can be
avoided if patients could consult with their primary care physician when symptoms
appear. As an MDVIP-affiliated physician, my patients know to contact me before going
directly to the ER (unless it’s a true medical emergency) or a walk-in clinic. This can
help save time and money. However, if my patients are admitted to the hospital, I can
act as their hospitalist doctor, as well as their internist, as I maintain hospitalist
privileges at all Advent Health campuses. Being your advocate in and out of the hospital
can help eliminate fears or confusion that may come up during inpatient stays.

I’m confident that MDVIP will continue to help me provide personalized healthcare.
I want my patients to always feel they can discuss any problem or concern with me or
even just visit to share personal news. My goal is to be proactive and attentive to my
patients’ unique needs with an emphasis on prevention and wellness. I strive to

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.
