Meet Patrick VanSchoyck, MD, FACP

My practice philosophy has been refined over the years to a more patient-centered approach to primary care medicine. In my MDVIP-affiliated practice located in Bixby and Broken Arrow area, I believe that I am an advocate for my patients’ health and well-being. I experience individual patients as rare and special gifts to our society, and I try to encourage each person to be better than they see themselves. I encourage them to be healthier than they have been in the past and to strive for continual self-improvement. I aim for my patients to see themselves as great and good, as I see them.  My goal is to be your physical and mental health advisor. My staff, patients and I work as a team toward patients’ better well-being and healthier lives through lifestyle changes and more daily activity. I want to be your friend and advocate, as well as your personal doctor.

As an MDVIP-affiliated physician, I am thrilled to be able to spend more time with patients and focus on their unique health needs and goals. I care for people in the Bixby area and Broken Arrow, as well as midtown and southside Tulsa areas. I see patients from Skiatook, Owasso, Collinsville and Claremore, as well as Sands Springs and Mounds, Oklahoma.

Frequently Asked Questions

Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.

MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.

Most uncomfortable I have ever felt in a doctors office was when I had to see this doc when my primary care physician was booked up. He made several strange remarks throughout both appointments about my love life, questioning my mental health, the danger of my current medications and that my IUD would ‘mess up’ my babies…even though I was certainly not planning on having children during this time nor did I bring this up in my appointment. I found this very strange and unprofessional. He also threatened to do a blood draw to test if I was even taking my medication…. On my first visit for a medication I had taken for years. He continued to ramble on about unrelated topics. Years later, I still think about this very strange experience. I was curious if he was still at the same office and upon looking him up, found a few others had similar feelings and experiences. So while I hate to leave a negative review, I think it’s important. Maybe not all will or have had this experience but it was certainly mine. I have been to the same OBGYN and primary care doc for over 10 years and I have never once had a poor experience until I had the unfortunate luck to be referred to Dr. van for this brief time. I do hope his beside manner has improved and he has reflected on how his behavior affects his patients outcomes.

Dr. Van is one of THE MOST COMPETENT DOCTORS you will ever find. He cares about his patients, takes the time to answer any questions you may have, he does what needs to be done to solve your issues, and is always a pleasure to see and converse with. He has always been upfront and honest. Never inappropriate. He has been my doctor for about 28 years. I trust him, his knowledge, and his opinions 100%. I was baffled by the negative reviews. Dr. Van has wonderful reviews on all the health review sites but not here. I looked at the other reviews that these people were posting and saw that almost all that posted a negative review about Dr. Van did the same for almost all the other doctors and health insurance companies. Now, I have a better understanding! Do your homework first before you believe these reviews. See what they are posting about others as well. The only thing that I saw that had any truth to it from my experiences with Dr. Van, is that yes, you almost always have to wait some when you're there. That's because he is thorough and takes his time with you because he is such a caring doctor. He is doing the same for the person before you as well. He is worth the wait. If Dr. Van is your doctor, consider yourself very fortunate.

Vanschoyck was completely inappropriate. He was talking robot conspiracy theories and made racist comments. His medical examination was just as bad, he didn't perform an examination before giving a diagnosis and his only solution was surgery. No xray, no physical examination, no plan. We walked out of the appointment, which seemed to confuse him and so we explained to him that he was inappropriately behaving and we left. Do not recommend.

Treated me like a drug fiend and accused me of being anorexic. Did not take me seriously about my gallbladder attack symptoms and tried to scare me away by scheduling me for a colonoscopy (at age 25). Turns out, I was right and it was my gallbladder. Thanks WebMD, no thanks to this pretentious jerk.

I love Dr. Vanschoyck! He saved my life!! Please do not believe the other reviews! If you have something wrong with you, he will find out what it is or he will refer you to someone who will! I have the greatest respect for this physician! You may wait just a bit to see him because he doesn't rush you through like most doctors. He will answer any questions you may have and he will take time to get to know you! I just can't say enough how much I love my Dr.

Patrick Vanschoyck spent about 15 minutes with me at my new patient appointment. He quickly informed me that I did not have depression and that anti-depressants would not work for me, because I would be happy if I would do my job as a woman and have children. He followed up with "oh .. do you even like men? I know your type doesn't like authority. You want to stay out all night dancing on bars. So if you don't feel the urge to have his kids when you are riding your boyfriend, that's where your issue is" I was not taking any controlled substance and was not seeking any. In fact, I threw away the prescription he gave me for Dexmethylphenidate.
I could go on but it's clear that I wasn't the only one that's experienced such a bizarre appointment. I was told by the board of medicine that the only way to stop this type of treatment is for others to report it ASAP.

I’ve been in the healthcare for 20 years and Dr. VanSchoyck is one of the most sincere doctors I’ve met. He’s always willing to have the tough discussion and never leaves any doubt on what you need to do to improve my health. Several of my family members also go to Dr. V. I recommend him to anyone looking for a doctor that will be honest and compassionate about your care. Plus he has the best in the business with Georgiana.

Treated my wife like a drug seeker for her chronic pain, took her off all milder meds (that worked) only to put her back on stronger narcotics with more side effects.

Misdiagnosed her as having high cholesterol and put on meds which had an adverse reaction. When informed of the reaction became abusive and maligned her reputation as a patient when she sought other physicians.

Verbally insulted me asking questions about her condition. Temperamental when questioned.

I could go on but this paints the picture.

Dr. Van has-been my family medical doctor for 26 years, and has literally saved my life twice. I have had some unusual health conditions that have led to his CORRECT diagnosis of colon cancer at 35 yrs of age and a mastoidectomy which led to finding a hole in skull to have a mid cranial fossa brain surgery at the age of 40. He is always thoughtful and kind and very personable. He takes time to listen and is professional and very very knowledgeable. Sorry to those who have had negative experiences, but I have recommended 4 close friends who love him as well.

Dr. VanSchoyck is one of the best doctors. He is so smart and caring and will do what ever is necessary to help you physically and mentally. He always has a smile, patient to hear what is going on with your health and 100% available to find out what your health issues are and make a plan to improve whatever is going on with you and you body. For me, he always was able to diagnose my problem, explain it to me, and treat me for the problem. He loves what he does and cares about every person that comes into his office for help. He is never in a hurry. His interest is about you, when you are with him. They also have a friendly and helpful staff. I would recommend him. He is the best!!

Instead of doing what they can, and what is their job, they will lie to you, and then go behind your back and give you new prescriptions that they haven't discussed with you at all. Getting a call back is more difficult than pulling teeth, as is getting them to do what they say they will do. Highly recommend looking for any other doctor. Maybe one that cares about you and your needs, and will actually do what they say they will do. Yes, I have tons of proof that they lied, and was even told by the nurse that Vanschoyck finds it a waste of time to get insurance to approve a medication that actually works... Go elsewhere.

Dr. Van has been a God send in my life. I was in bad health two years ago, and he has done everything possible to get me back on the right path. He does hold patients accountable to do their part and explains in detail why it is important. His staff is AMAZING!! Also very friendly and cares about the person they are treating. Thank you Dr Van and your great staff!! I actually enjoy going to my Dr visits. Keep up the great work and may God bless all of you.
