There is so much to say. Dr. Hong became my husband and my internist when we to Virginia in 2007. I had multiple health issues. In 2005 I had breast cancer and had a bi-lateral Masectomy at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital, where I am still a patient. After chemo for the breast cancer I developed Epilepsy and hearing loss. I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma at the same time. Dr. Hong was very diligent monitoring me. He got reports from Sloan. When I was told I needed chemo for the Lymphoma he chose an Oncologist. I found out he didn’t just call the Doctor he went to see him personally. Years later my husband was diagnosed with bladder cancer, he was in and out of the hospital. Dr. Hong would stop by to see him several times a day, not once a day like Doctors do. He gave me his cell phone number. One of the nurses told me he has seen him feeding patients. After my passed away he was there for me. He is the best doctor and a caring doctor. He is always monitoring me, keeping a close eye on my blood work. I can’t say enough about Dr. Hong.

My husband, Dave, and I have been patients of Dr Hong for many years; he never ceases to impress us with his knowledge, his kindness and his humor. Dave is critically ill with a terminal and very complicated medical condition, Multiple System Atrophy. (MSA). His condition has worsened so much that he is unable to visit Dr Hong in his office. Today I received an early morning phone call from Dr Hong, checking on Dave’s condition ONLY HOURS AFTER returning from China. I was “blown away” by his phone call and his kindness and understanding of the difficult situation we are facing. My goal is to help all patients achieve their health goals through individualized care and attention. As a primary care physician, I believe in emphasizing wellness to protect you from preventable diseases and keep you as healthy as possible by proactively concentrating on all areas of your health. I believe in treating a patient as a whole person instead of focusing only on symptoms or disease. By approaching internal medicine in this fashion and listening to each patient’s life experiences, I am better able to deliver quality services and effective treatments. The MDVIP Wellness Program offers me a myriad of tools and resources to help you achieve your health goals, including advanced screenings and tests emphasizing cardiovascular health, diabetes prevention, sleep, nutrition, fitness and emotional well-being.

No one should have to manage illness alone. By being a part of my personalized healthcare practice, you and I will nurture a close relationship. You will have unrushed appointments, I will be available whenever you need me, and I'll have time to coordinate necessary care with specialists. Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). I am writing this review on behalf of my grandmother and mother. As a healthcare provider myself, I can honestly say Dr Hong, Julie, and all the staff go above and beyond for their patients. The fee to be a patient of Dr Hong’s is well worth it, especially if you have chronic health conditions. He is kind and caring and provides excellent evidence based medicine. Furthermore he has visited my 97 year old grandmother at the hospital every time she has had to be admitted. Right now my gram is dealing with covid and can not be visited by her family which is horrible for her and all of us. Having Dr. Hong check in on her there and communicate her status with us has been a tremendous relief on our family to know she is not all alone at her advanced age. Dr Hong’s compassion and humor have helped keep two of the most important people in my life stay as healthy as possible. On behalf of my whole family thanks so much Dr. Hong and team!!!

I have never had such amazingly caring medical treatment in the world. Dr. Hong truly considers you as a whole person and listens to his patients. I have been going through a severe illness for 7 months and every time I reach out the front office is kind and helpful with prescriptions.

I feel fortunate to have found Dr. Hong and his staff. Finally, I’ve been through severe medical illness before but this is by far the worst medical problem I’ve faced. Dr.Hong’s breadth and depth of knowledge is something I’ve never seen.

One star off:
Although they are patient and accommodating, they aren’t tied into the INOVA system and I haven’t had much luck getting in to see the specialist they referred me to. Not sure that his Dr. Hong’s fault. There have been issues with paperwork for my employer and insurance provider but I will update if this is resolved.

Dr. Hong was my parent's "concierge" doctor for well over a decade and he failed both of them. Starting first with my dad...he let his PSA numbers climb and climb until finally my dad said "enough is enough, I want a scan" and sure enough that scan showed us that he had Stage 4 prostate cancer. I find it beyond negligent that Dr. Hong allowed his numbers to increase without any sort of scan. Later the very next year, my dad came down with an awful cough that wouldn't go away. A good doctor would have said "hmm, this man has stage 4 prostate cancer, I should scan his lungs", but nope Dr. Hong again did nothing and we later learned that my dad had a huge mass that turned out to be a rare liposarcoma. Next was my mom, who after years and years under Dr. Hong's "care" was never suggested to have a mammogram. Well, needless to say we just learned my mom has stage 3/4 breast cancer. It is a shame this guy is still in practice. He is negligent and complacent.

I just recently joined Dr. Hong’s practice after a horrible drug interaction earlier this year between prescribed meds. Dr.Hong has been amazing to work with. He is super responsive, gives you his personal cell number and has been really flexible working with me with telehealth since I live about 2 hours from his practice. I was left with a number of lingering issues from the drug interaction and the resulting syndrome, which is not well understood. Dr.Hong has already gone above and beyond to help me navigate the aftermath of it. He is smart and obviously really cares about his patients. Cannot say enough good things about him! I wish I had found him sooner!

The question is, if all of your patients have to join this “VIP” program, who is the real "VIP" patient?

Went in to see Dr. Hong as have done previously in the 13 years he has been my doctor. I was told that because I wasn't a member of his MDVIP private pay membership, which costs $1600 per year on top of insurance copayment and dr bills, that he could not see me. I invested 13 years to build up trust with a doctor and now he kicks me to the curb. I was deeply saddened. It is quite obvious that Dr. Hong no longer cares about me as a patient but is after the $$$$. Sad. Trust is gone.

This is in response to "Concerned Citizen". When a doctor goes to MDVIP, he is required to give up his other patients. A concierge medicine practice gives a lot more time to each patient than is allowed by Medicare or insurance companies. That's one of things that $1600 per year pays for. For myself, when I became a senior citizen, I no longer had the time or mental energy/capacity to stay on top of my medical conditions. I needed the hand holding that is not possible for a doctor with 3000 patients. MDVIP restricts the number of patients that a doctor can have to about 600.

You get what you pay for and $1600 is well worth it when compared to standard medical practices that I dealt with for 40 years.

Dr Hong has gone well out of his way to provide excellent care for me, especially when I was hospitalized for 2 back-to-back spinal fusion surgeries and I caught pneumonia in the hospital. The pneumonia caused me to stay in the hospital for an extra 2 weeks. Dr Hong came by my hospital room to check on my condition daily. When I was finally allowed to leave the hospital, I needed an oxygen machine, portable tanks and medication. Dr Hong made himself available to me as I struggled to manage the pneumonia at home. He has always been very attentive, incredibly kind and goes out of his way to provide outstanding care.

I am sad and mad to write this review on behalf of my parents. I would put Zero Stars but that is not an option. They saw Dr Hong for years (since at least 2008) and switched this past summer after learning the care was subpar. They discovered this when my dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer after years and years of high PSA levels where he was told that it was normal (it was so not!!) and my mom was just diagnosed with Breast Cancer (Stage 3 or 4 will be determined by Bone scans and CT Scans) after not having a mammogram for 25+ years. The only reason that this was caught now is that their new doctor was shocked that Dr Hong had not recommended that my mom get a mammogram or several other tests that are normal and recommended at their age. So basically he failed 2 of this lifelong patients by being complacent and I wanted to protect others from this lack of care.
