Dr. Neil Okamura has been our family doctor for over 20 years. I know my late husband and I both feel it was because of Dr. Okamura's excellent care and advise that he lived another 11 years. Dr. Okamura detected his base of tongue cancer in early 2006 and sent us to the appropriate doctors for treatment. Then
in 2014 after replacement of an aortic heart valve my husband started showing mysterious symptoms, some heart related, but many neurological. Dr. Okamura thought that he had signs of Multiple System Atrophy a very rare neurological disease that no other doctors diagnosed. It turned out he was correct and we were able to get the appropriate medical advice from a neurological specialist at Stanford Hospital. This disease manifested itself in numerous strange symptoms and it was comforting to know that Dr. Okamura was only a phone call away at any time of the day or night, as we unfortunately had numerous hospitalizations and emergency calls over the last 3 1-2 years of my husbands life. His counsel and advice were a blessing to both of us during the last difficult years of dealing with the disease.
