I have known Steve since he was a short coat. He was an Intern and a Resident at Herman Hospital in TMC, and after he finished his residency, he became affiliated with Diagnostic Hospital, across from Methodist Hospital. He has always had a passion to be the best doctor and a passion to stay abreast of medical research, technology, and knowledge. His office at Diagnostic had a pull out on his desk on the right side—which was great because he is left-handed—on which he kept his reading stack of JAMA publications. His wall was filled with his medical license and other accolades, including his Phi Beta Kappa certificate of membership.

It’s rare to find talent, sharp intellect, passion, and a great ‘bedside’ manner all in one person, but Steve has that and great recollections of much-loved physicians at Hermann that we both knew. He has great stories and jokes, too.

For the 40 plus years that I have known him, it is comforting to know that he knows me inside and out, and I know that we will be together until he decides to retire, or the Lord calls me home, whichever comes first. One’s relationship with one’s doctor is very intimate, second only to one’s spouse, and Steve is a man that I trust with my life.
