Thank heavens for her thorough annual physicals

Dr Sarah Stapleton may have saved my life this year. She 'found' a lump in my breast during my annual physical, which is an hour-long, hands-on review of my body plus various breathing, hearing, and strength tests. I know my husband's internist does not do same. This finding of a lump was obviously concerning because I had had my annual mammogram and ultrasound just four months previous and it was clean. As I have since learned, some types of cancer can 'hide' to the extent that a mammogram cannot pick them up, nor can an ultrasound. I had not been self-checking, which is my bad and I have learned my lesson.
This was an early Stage 2 cancer. Very treatable by lumpectomy and a short course of radiation. But who knows what I would have written here if it had not been discovered so early. At the very least it would have meant more radical surgery, plastic surgery and perhaps chemotherapy.
So, a huge, heartfelt thank you to Dr Stapleton for the discovery and her professional attention to detail each year.
