Without Dr. Meinhold I probably wouldn't be alive today.

In July of 2005 I had recently finished bicycling across Iowa. The event is popularly known as RAGBRAI (the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa). My annual physical was scheduled for early August, and Dr Meinhold and I were both pleased with the results that showed me to be in good health. 3 weeks later I received a letter that said there appeared to be an anomaly with my blood work, and to come back for another blood draw. I thought then and there I may have Multiple Myeloma, the disease that took the life of my father 20 years earlier. The results came back the same. To be absolutely sure the nurse took a third blood draw. Dr. Meinhold then counseled me on what the markers indicated and referred me to an oncologist. After being tested the oncologist confirmed that I did have MM. Even though I felt great the cancer had established itself and, left untreated would have continued to progress until who knows when it would have been discovered.
Thanks to Dr. Meinhold taking the steps to have my blood tested specifically for MM I was able to undergo bone marrow transplants and am still going strong 19 years later. His insight into my family history must have compelled him to ask for the extra testing which wouldn't have normally been done especially considering my good health at the time. I literally owe my life to Dr. Meinhold since there is no cure for MM (yet). His decisive action meant the disease was caught early enough for treatments to arrest any progression. Whereas the prognosis at the time was 3-5 years, I have enjoyed life for 4 times that long and still have many years of good health to look forward to. I'll always be Dr. Meinhold's #1 fan. I am very grateful for him.
