It was the early 1990's, and I was about to open my first retail store. I had interviewed several hundred people for various positions. There was a terrible flu going around that year, needless to say, I was overworked and got it. I was so sick and getting weaker that I finally called St. Thomas to find a doctor I could see that morning. The store was opening in less than 48 hours and there were still lots to do. I got in to see young "Doctor Allen". I told him the situation and that I couldn't just go home and go to bed. He listened and probably realized I wasn't going to back down. Instead of fighting with me, he had his nurse set up IV bags and fill me with fluids. Yes, I was totally dehydrated. I think he gave me a shot and scripts and said come back if you are not better in 48hrs. He could have been like the other "OLD" doctors at St. Thomas and put me in the hospital. But he didn't.
I would like to also thank "Doc Allen" for the years he took care of my Mom and sister. After a couple of years of seeing him, I convinced Mom and sister to change their PC physician. It was the best decision I could have ever made. In their last years Doc Allen was only a phone call away to help me make final decision for their care and well-being. This meant everything to me, even when Mom was no longer in his care, he would look at test and tell me what was going on and what to expect. Not many Doctors will do that. Thank you!
Lastly, how many people get sung to in the pouring rain by their doctor. Only Doc Allen would stand out in the rain to campaign for his wife. Now that's dedication.
Thanks for the last 30 plus years of listening and not becoming one of the "OLD" doctors.
