My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

My mission is your health and your wellness. My style is not just caring for my patients but caring about them. Wellness takes on different meanings at different ages – from running your first marathon at age 40, planting that vegetable garden at age 60 or dancing at your granddaughter’s wedding at age 80. I look forward to partnering with you in optimizing your health and your wellness wherever life finds you.
My MDVIP-affiliated practice in internal medicine, commonly regarded as a concierge model of care, primarily serves the Main Line and western suburbs of Philadelphia. Dr. Harkins diagnostic acumen has been a godsend to me over the years. On many maladies Ive had, hes been able to identify the issue and get me started on a recovery / renewal track. He also has a very reassuring manner. At one time when I was in great pain, both physical and mental, he told me better days are ahead and although those better days didnt follow immediately, they did eventually… See more

Dr. Harkins has been taking care of me for close to 40 years, and also took care of my father for his last 20 years, and he lived to be 99 years old. I know that I'm not the best patient, but he has never said anything to correct. He had coolest temperament, even though I don't deserve his professionalism. I have several relatives that he treats, and all agree with my assessment.

from Gina June 1, 2019 for James P. Harkins, MD

Dr. Harkins is always available in time of need for me and my husband. We were one of this first patients when he opened his office in Newtown Square.
A great doctor with patience, knowledge and care for us. God bless Dr. Harkins.

He shows tremendous care and provides a comprehensive assessment every time i go to his office. It is a quiet office, everyone takes there time in taking care of you with no hurry or rushing going on. He has basically saved my life twice with reducing high blood pressure and detecting a tumor under my tailbone that turned out to be cancerous. With this early detection, my situation is clear.… See more

Dr Harkins has been our family doctor for over 25 years, We have never come in contact with a more knowledgeable and caring physician. He spends an enormous amount of time with each patient and is a kind and reassuring person.
If the Surgeon General gave us a diagnosis, we would certainly run it past Dr
Harkins before taking any action.
Sadly, the days of Doctors as… See more

Dr Harkins is terrific. He actually listens and documents his discussions with you by hand. He took excellent care of my Mom and is now taking care of me and my daughter. He is a very thorough doctor, patient, considerate and respectful. Just received a full physical and it was very informative. I need to build up my lower extremity strength and start a heart healthy diet.

from Debra May 28, 2019 for James P. Harkins, MD

Congratulations Dr. Harkins. Thank you for the detailed cardiac screening that determined my need for medication when previous guidelines did not. Thank you fir referring my husband to a urologist which enabled early intervention to prevent the growth of cancer. Thank you for your wonderful bedside manner. You take time to listen and never make us feel rushed.
