My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia and received my undergraduate degree from Princeton University. I returned home to attend medical school at Emory University and completed my internship and residency at Emory's Grady Hospital and affiliated hospitals.

I completed my fellowship in endocrinology at Emory and have practiced medicine for 18 years at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, assisting Piedmont in the development of their Diabetes Resource Center that helps all people with diabetes to lead healthy lives.

As an endocrinologist, I take a multi-disciplinary approach to caring for diabetes, which focuses on decreasing patients' blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as concentrates on motivating patients to adopt healthier lifestyle habits in order to be as healthy and active as possible.

As an internist and personal physician, my knowledge, experience, insight and technical ability all come together when evaluating and treating every patient. My goal is to get to know my patients well beyond their symptoms and help them identify and achieve their goals. In my personalized healthcare practice, often compared to a concierge medical practice, my patients and I work together throughout the year to keep them on the path to healthier living. I sincerely care about the well-being of all my patients - I have time to listen, educate and be their advocate.

In addition to specializing in internal medicine and diabetes, I care for patients with thyroid disorders, metabolic bone disease (osteoporosis), hormone deficiencies and/or excesses resulting from pituitary or adrenal disorders, and I treat problems associated with testosterone deficiency in men.

Dr. Welch has been my primary care physician for over 25 years. He is always caring, courteous and responsive to my medical needs. I believe it is Dr. Welch who has contributed to my longevity and wellbeing. I enjoy seeing Dr. Welch and his staff at my appointments. Dr. Welch is 1 of 4 endocrinologists I've seen since my diabetes diagnosis 20 years ago. He distinguishes himself in many ways-by conducting office visits with focus and skill, by taking whatever time is needed to make me feel comfortable, and by listening carefully to what I say, to my answers to his questions, and to my questions. He seems to be challenged at each visit to tighten my… See more

I started with Dr. Welsh as my diabetes doctor and was pleased with his service. Because of his good service I joined MDVIP as soon as I had the opportunity. In January 2014 I had my first appointment which was my annual physical. Dr. Welsh had the usual lab tests run and then examined me from head to toes. I was very excited with the complete physical. He explained everything that was… See more
