About Abdallah Karam, MD

I truly believe that forming a dynamic partnership between myself and my patients is a more personalized way to provide healthcare. And like any partnership, it needs to mature over time and be based on mutual trust and respect.

I have strived over the past three decades of practicing internal medicine to develop and nurture these partnerships with my patients in an intimate, welcoming and non-judgmental environment, while also building a network of trusted specialists both locally and nationally.

As an MDVIP-affiliated primary care physician, I am very excited to be able to have more time and resources to spend with my patients. My practice offers services, including comprehensive, advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests, that go far beyond those found in concierge medicine practices. My practice also offers the convenience of same- or next-day appointments.

As a physician, I constantly work on improving my skills by staying updated on the ever-changing world of medicine. I also keep myself healthy by “walking the walk” by eating healthy, staying active through my passion for hiking and by participating in competitive amateur ballroom dancing.

I love all aspects that encompass the vast world of internal medicine, but I have special interests in cardiovascular health, diabetes, women’s health, especially menopause-related issues, and LGBTQ+ health.

I speak Spanish, Arabic and French. I see patients from the northwest suburbs and the city of Chicago, Illinois.

Dr Karam is my personal doctor for some many years in the beginning he was one of the best physicians I’ve ever been associated with he listened intensely and talks with ease and knowledge about your conditions as time will run and he became the private doctor not available to all but only those who paid $3000 annual fee he became more and more and less concerned with my health issues and more that of my wife’s who is also his patient I also have my son with his thing I am paying $9000 a year for the coverage for the three of us this year I don’t believe the doctor has my best interest at heart he began to make decisions regarding my healthcare with my wife and him only present and me nowhere in the room when a decision was made to change my prescription he provided my wife A letter concerning my health issues without ever presenting this to me my wife has used this to bring up a lawsuit I hope he knows what he has done and I don’t really think that’s what the letter was intended to do but being I don’t have a copy I cannot say and I will let the legal team take care of this unless I receive a copy of his letter today by noon Sunday the 16th what I’m asking is a simple request to share a letter you shared with my wife regarding my health without notifying me I am due a copy of this letter and if I don’t I will file a complaint and a lawsuit with HIPAA

I was a loyal patient of this office for seven years. I respected and trusted my physician deeply—not only as a doctor but as someone I considered a friend and advisor when it came to my personal well-being and medical care. I also extended that trust to the staff at this office. Unfortunately, that trust was shattered.

Last year, the office transitioned to a concierge model with a hefty $3,000 annual fee to remain under his care. While I understood the shift, it was financially out of reach for me. I did see him one final time to get surgical clearance, at which point I was told it would still be okay to reach out for minor prescription adjustments, even if I wasn’t part of the new model.

Fast forward to six months later—there was a small issue with my prescription. I reached out through the portal and waited two days with no response. So I called. That’s when I was met with a cold and condescending reminder from Lisa that, as of March 2025, the doctor was no longer accepting any communication or care requests from patients outside the new practice. Not only did she say this with zero empathy, but she acted as though I should have known—as if I was out of line for even asking.

Let me be clear: I was never informed that communication would be completely cut off after six months. When I last saw the doctor, I was explicitly told minor things like prescription adjustments would still be honored. But instead of simply replying through the portal with a message like, “Hey, thanks for reaching out, but unfortunately the doctor is no longer handling requests outside the practice,” they chose to completely ignore me. Ghosted me. As if I didn’t exist after seven years of loyalty and trust.

This office showed their true colors. When you’re paying and useful, they’re all smiles and kindness. But the second that dynamic shifts, you’re disposable. No compassion. No professionalism. Just silence and dismissal.

I understand that medical practices evolve—but the way this office handled the transition was nothing short of disgraceful. You don’t treat long-term patients like this. It’s shameful.

If you’re considering joining this practice, tread very carefully. The people in this office will be warm and welcoming while you’re paying the price of admission, but when it’s time to part ways, expect to be treated like garbage. I wouldn’t recommend them to my worst enemy. Absolute atrocity.

Best Family Practice I have ever went to and could not recoomend enough. Dr. Karam and his staff are phenominal. Dr. Karam has great bed side mannar and is extreamly knowledgable as well as easy to talk to. The staff are friendly and very helpful. I am typically prone to one accident every 1-2 years and they were always able to get me in to see him in a timelly manner to be evaluated.

It was my first visit today and I'm confident I've found a doctor that will listen to my needs- and provide exemplary advise & recommendations to better my health. The American health system these days can be very awful, and at times frustrating- even with good insurance. Dr's like this physician is what gives me hope. Through my 30 years of seeing health professionals I can say I've never met a better docor. Absolutely 5 stars in every way. Front staff were short handed but Lisa and Michelle were very helpful and accommoding. Thanks very much!

Dr Karam is a excellent physician. He spent a lot of time with me going over my history and had a list of suggestions. I received a call with blood work results and the MD recommendation. I had a follow up question that I never got a call back on. I called the office back and spoke the LISA who was rude and had a attitude with me. I can see I'm not the only patient she has talked to with disrespect i hope he handles her.

9/20/24 - So glad I NEVER have to deal with these people again. Just called to confirm they got some forms I left, and Lisa was rude to me AGAIN... and for the LAST TIME!
She should NOT be answering the phone since she obviously hates people. Sorry to make you do your job. People can hear when you slam the phone down on your desk
Looking forward to having a new doctor that has pleasant office staff.

Lisa in the office is RUDE! Does not let you finish talking and gets very snippy. You can't even speak to Dr Karam if you call. Very disappointed at the way things are being handled there lately.
For the record... We love Dr Karam, but when a patient is having a problem or a possible reaction to meds, they deserve to be able to speak to their doctor and not be put on hold mid sentence by his staff.
10-25-22 Well, just called the office to ask a question and got cut off mid-sentence AGAIN by Lisa. This woman just doesn't get it. She should NOT be answering phones and talking to patients. Oh, BTW, not EVERY person who is sick has COVID. Geez... try listening.

He takes the time to listen to his clients' issues and carefully explains the plan of treatment/action. He has a great staff who is efficient, caring and very responsive.

I'm so happy that we found Dr.Karam as my son's primary doctor. Dr. Karam and his team are the best, very kind, treat their patients with lots of respect. There's a lab in his office. We didn't have to go somewhere else for tests. Awesome!

I've been going here for nearly 2 decades and wouldn't think of going anywhere else. Dr. Karam is awesome, he stays up-to-date on recent research and doesn't just suggest prescribing different drugs to take care of ailments but will instead try to understand what in my lifestyle might be causing the issue and what I could change to help resolve it. Wouldn't dream of going anywhere else.

Called the office 2 months ago and the ladies working there were extremely rude. Wish the office had evening hours and Saturday appointments. Some of us are working from home on normal business hours. Having a difficult time looking for a doctor that is close by that is accommodating to those who can only go for appointments after 5PM.

My husband and I have been going to Dr. Karam for around 5 years now. I never even wanted a primary care dr. until my husband told me how much he liked him, so I decided to go to him too. He really listens and he is personable. He has a way about telling you something you don’t want to really hear, like you need to lose a few pounds, without making you feel bad about it. He also talks in detail about possible solutions that would work within your lifestyle. I’ve never really felt compelled to write a review about a doctor, but he really is that great!!!

My partner and I have been patients of Dr. Karam for about seven years. I have found him to be personable and proactive. His staff is very helpful. Whether you are in for a check-up or an illness they know who you are, are asking about your family, and making sure you get the best care. They work with you with your insurance company (if they take the insurance) and try to be transparent. I always find Dr. Karam to be reasonable and available for a conversation via email or phone. I can't rate him or his staff any higher.

Dr. Karam has been the only doctor I've ever come across to make me feel 100% comfortable. He's very kind, a great listener, and is great at making one feel relaxed. He makes me laugh every time I see him. The best part about Karam is he finds every possible solution to your problem and tries every one until something works.

Frequently Asked Questions

MDVIP-affiliated physicians use the Wellness Program Plus to help prevent little things from becoming big things – working to help patients enjoy life and be healthier. Those who value their health will appreciate having a closer doctor-patient relationship. Because MDVIP-affiliated physicians have smaller practices, they have more time for you, so you can receive the individualized care and service you deserve. Physicians offering the Plus program have a different set of testing to choose from than physicians in the traditional program; this testing looks at additional health risks. Plus doctors also use an advanced cognitive testing system to evaluate brain health and offer a medication review program.

MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.
