About Narendra Punjabi, MD

My journey into medicine began with the inspiration of a close friend during my high school years. That experience motivated me to pursue a career dedicated to the care and well-being of others, leading to my admission to medical school and a lifelong commitment to the practice of medicine.

For more than four decades, I have practiced internal medicine and primary care in Austin, Texas. Throughout my career, I have remained committed to providing comprehensive, patient-centered care that recognizes the interconnectedness of the mind, body and spirit. I believe the physician's role extends beyond helping identify and address disease to listening to each patient as a unique individual and partnering with them as they pursue achieving optimal health.

My philosophy of care is grounded in compassion, respect and evidence-based medicine. I have learned that meaningful, lasting improvements in health can occur when patients are ready to embrace change. My responsibility is to educate, guide and support them with individualized plans that reflect their health goals, values and lifestyles. I strive to help every patient feel empowered to make informed decisions and take an active role in their health.

I believe wellness can come from caring for the whole person. As part of a personalized approach, I am experienced with and offer hormone replacement therapy, as clinically appropriate. My goal is to help patients as they work to improve their energy, vitality, physical function and overall quality of life.

My goal is to build lasting relationships based on trust, compassion and open communication. I want my patients to feel heard, respected and confident that they have a physician who genuinely cares about their well-being. By combining preventive care with a personalized approach, I strive to help each patient as they pursue achieving the best possible health and enjoying a fuller, more active life.

Outside of medicine, I maintain a daily routine of meditation and walking, practices that reinforce my commitment to physical, mental and emotional well-being. They have also strengthened my belief that health is a lifelong pursuit of balance, resilience and purpose.

Medicine is more than my profession—it is my calling. The greatest fulfillment in my career comes from seeing patients who have worked to regain their health, renew their energy and improve their quality of life. After more than four decades in practice, I remain deeply committed to providing compassionate, individualized care and I aim to make a meaningful difference in the lives of my patients and the community I am privileged to serve.

Dr. Punjabi was the rudest doctor I have ever encountered. He cut me off multiple times when I was asked a question. He was dismissive to my concerns. He suggested I be eating 800 calories a day and ended our visit saying “I hope you lose a pound by the next time I see you”. He is degrading, disrespectful, and condescending. To top off my terrible visit, I was not prescribed the medications we discussed. Such a waste of time. Do NOT go here.

Omg. I just read about Dr P bedside manner. I had my first visit with him two weeks ago for HRT, AND I thought his bedside manner was amazing. I loved his personality and appreciated the information provided.

So.. the nurse comes in and takes all of my info and my symptoms on a laptop.. the Dr comes in sits down, doesn't look at the laptop and asks " so what do you want from me" .. I was confused and really didn't know how to respond.. I said my symptoms are on the laptop. He stood up used his stethoscope for 30 sec.. blew off everything I was telling him and suggested I wait and see if it gets better by itself after being sick for a week already..he told me I should eat more fatty foods.. what kind of Dr tells you to eat fatty foods?. I was totally taken aback and left feeling as bad as I walked in .. he works out of a tiny clinic in a business mall.. I will not be going back

Dr. Punjabi and his staff are amazing! Since I moved to TX and had terrible allergies, I have seen Dr. Punjabi from a referral of another patient. He has completely solved my allergy situation, high blood pressure, and managed all hormone and bloodwork levels to reduce weight to where I’m feeling great and back to being healthy and happy. Thank you Doctor and Fahima, Isabel and other practice help!

Always very positive. Dr. Punjabi and his staff are the best. They all commented on my new hairstyle, which made me feel like they see me and I'm not just one of the many patients that come and go each day. I feel lucky to have Punjabi Medical Clinic as my primary care givers, knowing they will direct me to the appropriate specialist if and when needed.

I am 53 years old and Dr. Punjabi has been my Primary Care Manager for 11 years. He takes a truly proactive approach to health, focusing on longevity and preventative care instead of just reacting to problems once they arise. If you are sick, you can easily get a same-day video call and have your Rx sent to your pharmacy. He’s incredibly knowledgeable about hormone optimization and takes the time to explain results and options in a clear, thoughtful way. There are also a lot of in-house options that patients can take advantage of such as In-house labs, weight loss, THT, allergy tests, and cardiograms.

Appointments are easy to schedule (Isabel and Farima are wonderful and have also been there the whole time I have been a patient – I consider them friends), communication is straightforward, their phone number is a direct line. and I never feel rushed during visits. It’s rare to find a doctor who is this invested in long-term health and overall well-being. I feel confident, informed, and supported with my care. Highly recommend anyone looking for a hassle-free, personal approach to their health care.

Dr Punjabi has been my physician for over a decade. The staff and him have taken great care of me, diagnosed my issues, treated illnesses, and put me on a regiment of heathy habits and activities. This was a difficult road for me because of my work schedule and stress. I’m am now 62 years old and because of their medical care and exercise, I am healthier than when I was in my 40s. You will get great care if you come here!

I went to Dr. Punjabi multiple times. At first I thought he was a good doctor, but I soon realized he was a close-minded old man. I don't want to share all the personal details of my life, but you all should be able to assume what I am alluding to.

I wanted to get on a certain medication to prevent the acquiring of a certain transmittable infection. Iykyk. He told me he would NOT prescribe the medicine to me and if I wanted to prevent getting this disease I should not do "the thing" that would put me at risk of getting it.

I have never been so shocked by the response of a doctor in my life. Medicine is about helping people and he refused to do that. He took an oath to do no harm, and I believe he has broken that oath by refusing to prescribe this HARMLESS preventative medication.

Another thing! I was told that I had low T3 which is something that your thyroid creates meaning I had hypothyroidism. I went to a different doctor and they said that my thyroid levels were perfectly fine. Now I don't want to speculate but there are other reviews on here that have shared similar experiences in regard to the thyroid treatment I was recommended.

I do not recommend this doctor.

I will however say that I had a pleasant time with any and all staff, with the exception of Dr. Punjabi.

I’m sharing my experience so others can make an informed decision.

I was told I had low testosterone and hypothyroidism even though my lab values were within the healthy reference ranges and I had no symptoms of either. I was advised to disregard the lab reference ranges and encouraged to purchase a book on hormone “optimization” instead.

For context, I am 24 years old, very healthy, and planning to try for children soon. I was concerned because testosterone replacement therapy can negatively impact fertility, yet this was still recommended.

During the same interaction, I was also introduced to a separate business opportunity the provider is involved with, which appeared to be a multi-level marketing/financial sales program. This felt unrelated to my medical care and created a significant conflict of interest in my view.

The rest of the staff was professional and kind, but I personally felt the provider prioritized sales-oriented recommendations over evidence-based medical guidance.

I would strongly encourage others to seek a second opinion and carefully evaluate whether this practice aligns with their health goals.

I came in for bacteria resistant UTI that would not go away after two rounds of antibiotics. I explicitly told the Doctor and his staff what medication I was resistant to but they go ahead prescribe me that same DAMN medication. I came in frustrated by how long it was taking to recover and left even more frustrated by how disregarded I felt when I picked up my prescriptions

I have nothing to say besides Dr. Punjabi is a magic man. His bedside manner is way above par. The love in his eyes says it all. Originally start seeing for men’s health, as he gets you what you need. Then his consistent and erudite science based acumen leaves nothing to chance. His staff are nice, smart and dare I say very appealing! These ladies know their stuff and make that office hum! You will not find a better general practitioner anywhere. Star should be Zero.

Pls don't be fall in trap of this Location. Worst kind of service, you can expect ill-treatment from the front desk and billing staff.

The Doctor is sitting in one location as mentioned here, however billing will be done from an another location, and you will end up paying larger co-pay to your insurance. This office has 2 tax code and they are using the tax code which is not for this location.

Never recommend this place to anyone. I referred one of my colleague, he also experienced the same kind of treatment.

Most of the time they will force you to take un-necessary medicines directly from them, instead of sending the prescription to your pharmacy.

Be careful !!!

I had a great experience with Dr. Punjabi, also known as Dr. Pepper 🌶. He had a spicy personality that I found very enjoyable. However, there was one particular woman who worked at the front desk who was extremely rude, and she knows exactly who she is. The other women at the office were professional and helpful, but she stood out for all the wrong reasons.

During my first visit, this woman made a particularly nasty joke at my expense because I brought my fiance with me to my appointment. I get nervous in medical settings, and that's my personal business. She loudly announced to the entire building that I was lost without him, and that she would need to call him to make sure I didn't get lost at my next appointment. It was completely uncalled for and unprofessional.

In my opinion, her behavior was nothing short of evil, and I genuinely feel sorry for anyone who has to work with her on a daily basis. She asked me a question i forgot the answer too and was rude about that. This is why im not going back and canceled ny nect appt. I firmly believe that the office would be better off without her and that the doctor should seriously consider letting her go. Her demeanor and actions were completely inappropriate, and I believe she needs to find a job where she doesn't have to interact with people.

Additionally, I couldn't help but notice that her eyebrows appeared to be dark and heavily drawn on, which gave her a somewhat sinister appearance. It reminded me of Dracula, which only added to the negative impression I had of her.

Overall, my experience with Dr. Punjabi was positive, but unfortunately, it was overshadowed by the negative behavior of this one individual. I hope that steps are taken to address this issue so that other patients don't have to endure similar treatment in the future.

Dr. Punjabi and his office staff have been wonderful to me. I came in after going to my primary physician who told me I was fine. I was having joint pain, losing hair, brain fog, so exhausted, and had put on 30 lbs. No matter what I did, I could not lose the weight. I knew my PCP had to have been wrong. After some blood work was done, it was determined that my thyroid was low and we began medication for hypothyroidism. It took about a year to get the dosing right, but I’m so happy to say that I lost the weight and now feel great! Dr. Punjabi listened to me when my other Dr. blew me off. I tell anyone that is suffering with the same symptoms to give him a call. I’m glad I did!

DO NOT GO IF U ARE A WOMAN

my experience:

I felt the doctor here was really inappropriate.

I was here for my yearly checkup from a primary care physician, because it had been a few years since I saw a doctor.

I told him I was brought to him from my eating disorder treatment (as they had told me to ask for specific blood tests), and he immediately decided he knew how to "fix" me.

I was uncomfortable but he wouldn't let it go, kept cutting me off mid-sentence to tell me he knew better, & ask more invasive questions. I cut him off once he made me cry and told him this was weird and inappropriate & left the appointment without accomplishing anything except now I'm a little more afraid of going to the doctor.

Also, he seems overconfident in areas does not specialize in, which worries me for his current patients. He quickly stressed to me, extremely confident, that "Breakfast is a myth" & "You need to just take more walks", neither of which is helpful or true for someone handling a complex mental disorder.

NOTE: Please look him up on Zocdoc, his reviews there are jaw-dropping terrible.

Staff was helpful but Dr Punjabi’s bedside manner needs a lot of work. He told me I need to lose significant amounts of weight, I checked with another PCP who said my weight is perfectly fine. He then suggested that to lose said weight I should be eating under 900 calories per day, despite me telling him multiple times that I have a history of an eating disorder. 900 cals isn’t even enough food for a toddler…..

He also pushed thyroid medication on me despite my levels being within the normal range. I feel much better after discontinuing the thyroid medication under the care of a different doctor.

I do not recommend this practice.

This clinic is horrible! PLEASE DO NOT VISIT. Here is my experience:
I went in for my annual physical examination which was covered by my insurance but this clinic did not release my reports on the portal online. They made me come in once more so that the doctor reviews my reports (I don't understand why he could not do that without me being present!?). As a result they charged me additional money which was not covered by my insurance since this was the 2nd visit. On reaching out, the staff was highly unprofessional and rude and said "This is the store policy". They force you to come in for a second visit just to see the report so that they can mint more money out of you.

Not to mention the doctor asked me to take thyroid supplements even though my thyroid levels were absolutely normal!
There are other reviews of people who had similar experience but I made the mistake to not read reviews before going.

Learn from my mistake, avoid going here.

Dr. Punjabi and his staff are incredibly professional and helpful. I went in for a physical and blood work and he listened to my concerns, spoke through lifestyle and medicinal changes that could fix them, and was spot on the money. He also looked at alternative medicine that could be helpful based on the results and has been open minded and incredibly supportive.

Dr. Punjabi attempted to discontinue my ADHD treatment, saying I had "low thyroid hormone levels", and that these were the actual cause of my symptoms. The bloodwork he ordered showed that my levels were squarely in the normal range, but he claimed that they needed to be on the higher end of normal. Mind you, at no point in my two appointments did I express that I had symptoms consistent with hypothyroidism.

He went on to say that after following his treatment regimen (one prescription thyroid medication, several supplements including an anabolic steroid, and a book about HRT, totaling ~$180), patients had much more energy (I do not have low energy) and no longer had brain fog (I do not have brain fog); entirely anecdotal evidence of effectiveness.

Highly unprofessional.

DO NOT VISIT IF YOU ARE A WOMAN! Appalling care! Dismissive, unprofessional, and offensive. Ignored online info, made inappropriate comments about appearance, completely neglected my concerns. During the follow-up, the doctor unpreparedly reviewed lab results, casually suggesting a brain tumor without sensitivity or explanation, and shockingly joked about it. Furthermore, prescribed medication without discussing side effects or necessary lifestyle changes. His disorganization and insensitivity have left me doubting his diagnostic abilities entirely. This experience was a complete departure from the positive reviews shared by others, leaving me deeply troubled and questioning the authenticity of those reviews. I would strongly caution against seeking care from this doctor, especially if you're a woman seeking respectful and competent healthcare. His lack of bedside manner and disregard for serious concerns create an environment of distress and uncertainty.

Will aggressively push to schedule unnecessary follow up appointments to charge you.

Went in for a routine physical with blood work. Wanted to give results in person before results were known. Opted for a 5 min phone call. Charged for a full appointment without disclosing that I would be charged. Results could’ve been given by a nurse or online.

Also, pushed thyroid treatment after a single blood test. Checked with another doctor and my results were perfectly normal.

DO NOT GO HERE.

Dr. Punjabi helped give me my life back. When I turned 30, it was like a switch got flipped off-- no energy, fatigued all the time, motivation to take care of myself was on the back burner, etc. I had a pretty good idea going into his office what the problem was, simply based off family genetics, but it felt so good to be validated and have what was happening to me not only explained, but treated in an effective manner. Dr. Punjabi is very knowledgeable and although he doesn't beat around the bush, he is very respectful and honest and that's exactly what I want, and need, in a doctor.

I was so impressed by him that I insisted my fiance see him and he is now getting to experience the same gift I am, it has brought us closer together as a couple and anyone who has tried to change their lifestyle in a household with others who aren't ready to make the same change (and are a bad influence) will understand how important it is to get everyone on the same page so you can have the support system you need to make a healthy lifestyle happen.

If you are having thyroid or hormone issues, or are just feeling like "bleh" all the time without knowing where it's coming from, go see Dr. Punjabi. He will help you figure out what's going on and help guide you onto the right track. You only have one body in this life and it is never too soon to start taking care of it. What's good for the body is good for the mind, don't hesitate to start your journey on becoming the best version of yourself; Dr. Punjabi and his staff are here for you. :-)

I have been seeing Dr. Punjabi for years and honestly cannot imagine seeing another doctor. To have a doctor genuinely care about your well-being both physically and mentally is not a luxury I have ever had before. His staff are professional and always ask about my family. More than highly recommended!

Frequently Asked Questions

Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.

MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
