My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

I have been a primary care physician in Nashville for more than three decades. I have a successful and fulfilling career practicing outpatient medicine and hospital care, as well as teaching for two medical universities and working as a leader in the Tennessee Medical Association. Treating the whole patient has always been my goal. My wonderful staff and I strive to provide more personalized and friendly care, with a touch of humor and even background music, founded on empathy, compassion and communication. Now, as an MDVIP affiliate, I approach primary care with a greater focus on prevention as well as treatment of illness. In my smaller internal medicine practice, I can offer you more individualized care and more time together. I can practice medicine the way I have always aspired and better help you improve your health and health maintenance.

My MDVIP-affiliated practice offers services, including comprehensive, advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests, that go far beyond those found in concierge medicine practices. I also offer conveniences like same- or next-day appointments with minimal waiting. The enhanced doctor-patient relationship offered in my MDVIP-affiliated practice combined with the services included in the annual MDVIP Wellness Program are a big part of helping you improve your health span (living healthier longer).

Testimonials from patients of Dr. Allen

from Michael in TN March 18, 2024 for Newton P. Allen Jr., MD

Dr. Newton ("Newt") Allen, I can think of dozens of stories, but my favorite is Newt's annual Christmas party to which my wife (Avis) and I have had the pleasure of attending for many years. Nothing fancy, bring a plate, have a cup of hot cider, visit with friends and fellow patients...then gather around the piano as we sing Christmas carols. I know it's corny, but it is a singular Norman… See more

It was the early 1990's, and I was about to open my first retail store. I had interviewed several hundred people for various positions. There was a terrible flu going around that year, needless to say, I was overworked and got it. I was so sick and getting weaker that I finally called St. Thomas to find a doctor I could see that morning. The store was opening in less than 48 hours and… See more

Doc Allen has taken care of me for many years and I like him. One incident I will recount. I was prepared to go to a friends pool to exercise as I do not swim In my swimsuit and coverup I went to the car but had left my keys in the house. Earlier in the day after breakfast I had thrown up but was alright now. Went back to get keys and was suddenly not feeling well so I called my friend to say… See more

I had a stroke. Three neurologist saw me and none of them would not tell me my probable prognosis. Dr. Allen said he thought I would probably be alright based on his decades of experience. This reassured me and inspired me to pursue my rehabilitation with enthusiasm. Dr. Allen was right. I have recovered.

I know my husband would want me to tell Dr. Allen how much he and I appreciated the care he took of him until his death. He even drove all the way to Hendersonville to visitation after his death in 2021. (which is no easy trip). Our family has always had confidence in him and for that reason I chose to enroll in his concierge practice. He became our family’s physician in 1992, and a doctor/… See more
