About Susan M. Federman, MD
I chose family practice as a specialty because I believe in the philosophy of caring for the whole individual – a concept that takes into consideration the personal/family connections that can affect us all. I have tried to follow this concept in my 35+ years of practicing as a board certified family medicine practitioner. My goal in caring for people in my community is to support them as they work to maintain good health and to help them address problems when they do occur. I have relationships with the specialists in this area, if the need arises.
I like to work together with my patients so we can formulate a wellness plan that can support them for a lifetime. Period. I recognize that there is no “one size fits all” plan – I strive to provide guidance on a health plan to fit each individual.
I enjoy swimming laps early every morning; it’s important to me that we devise a plan that is enjoyable and can fit into your schedule the way mine fits me. I work to stay healthy to enjoy scuba diving, gardening, chasing my grandchildren and hiking. I will help you design a wellness plan so you can pursue doing what you love. My practice can serve you and your dependents of all ages. It is important to me to support you in managing your health no matter where you are, from home to hospital. I aim to be available when you need me.
My MDVIP-affiliated practice, often compared to a concierge medicine practice, offers conveniences like same- or next-day appointments. I also offer the annual MDVIP Wellness Program, comprised of 18+ advanced screenings and tests that can help identify certain risk markers.
I feel that communication between doctors and patients is key. I strive to communicate with patients in a manner that works well for each individual. I am working on my abilities to speak Spanish and French as well as English. My primary care practice will focus on you so you can pursue a healthier future.
I see patients from all over Toledo, OH, and the surrounding area. I am affiliated with ProMedica Toledo Hospital.

Frequently Asked Questions
Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.
Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.
MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
