Meet James S. Parsons, MD

The philosophy of how I have practiced medicine has not changed through my career. It is based on a personalized interactive relationship between my patients and myself. I have focused on current preventive care recommendations, early detection of disease states and intervention and patient oriented treatment of those diseases, both chronic and acute. Having added qualifications in geriatric medicine provides additional knowledge to manage the complexities of older patients with multiple diseases in obtaining appropriate intervention and support services. At this point in my career, transitioning to an MDVIP-affiliated practice will allow me to continue providing the service that both physician and patient are accustomed. I also offer conveniences, like same- or next-day appointments that start on time, which may be found in concierge medicine practices.

And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.

MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.

I just got a call letting me know this is a "concierge" practice now with only 500 patients and there is an $1800 a year enrollment fee. This is shameful and completely villainous. I am stunned.

I'm a 20-year plus patient of Dr. Parsons. He has always been there for me. He was proactive in calling me during a cancer scare in 2002. He gets back to me quickly when I email him. He is available for appointments when I need them, but he also prescribes medications after an email or phone call when it is not necessary for me to come in for a visit. Since going with MDVIP, he has become more proactive and more available. I highly recommend him.

I have had Dr. Parsons as my Primary Care physician since the late 60's or early 70's. He goes beyond your expectations to care for his patients. He makes you feel at ease, he follows up with you. I can not put into words how caring and concerned he is toward your health. If there is something he does not identify with immediately he will research and seek an answer and would refer you to whom you need to see. I can not identify a negative comment toward Dr Parsons. I would like to be able to continue with him as long as I live or he practices but, I am not sure I will be able to. However , I will always be grateful, he has been and is a professional, caring and concern physician. Anyone would be blessed to have him as their physician.

Dr. Parsons is pleasant, professional caring physician. He is available by text 24/7, even when he is out of the country. I have been a patient of Dr. Parsons for about 30 years. His practice is wonderful. When you call the practice you hear a live, familiar, friendly, and helpful voice. There is always proactive action from that initial office administrator. If I request a nurse consult, there is either an immediate response or timely return call should they be with patients. In terms of patient care and manner, Dr. Parsons and his staff are attentive, discerning, and everything you could possibly expect and desire from medical providers. He is well connected with the Raleigh medical community and has given me very good referrals to specialists. Dr. Parsons treated my dad for many years too. Dr. Parsons expert care and discernment were helpful in extending the quality of my dad's life. Dr. Parson's seems to be intuitively gifted with medical discernment and uses it in his practice to offer treatments that are both affordable and effective for his patients.
