My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

As a personal physician, I want to help my patients do all they can to live healthier, primarily through weight management, proper exercise and excellent nutrition. If you are dealing with a particular medical condition(s), we can use these same tools to help you better manage your condition(s) or to even try to  reverse or slow any unwanted disease process. In our current medical care environment, there rarely is enough time to discuss these helpful topics. As an MDVIP-affiliated physician I have the time to address important elements of your health. I prefer to use as few medications as possible and together, we can work toward these goals. I strive to get to know my patients well, and I believe the MDVIP practice  model can enhance my ability to know you better and help you more!

I was a cofounder of Fuquay-Varina Family Practice 34 years ago and have been a board-certified family physician since that time. My years in practice have allowed me to develop strong relationships with many of the excellent sub-specialists in the Triangle area, and I never hesitate to recommend a referral for something that may go beyond your primary care needs. My MDVIP-affiliated practice offers advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests that go beyond those of traditional primary care practices, along with conveniences, like same- or next-day appointments and the ability to contact me during and after hours.

Our practice serves many communities in southern Wake County, including Fuquay-Varina and Holly Springs, as well as the greater Angier community in northern Harnett County. I am an instructor for the UNC School of Medicine and enjoy teaching first- and second-year medical students. On a more personal note, my faith plays a huge part of who I am, and I have enjoyed taking part in numerous medical mission trips over the years, including to El Salvador, Africa and India. I would love to have you join my new MDVIP-affiliated practice!

Dr. Thomas Darrell has always listened to me and given great advice and guidance, even when I failed to follow it. He advised me to see a cardiologist when he detected an abnormal sound in my heart beat. I eventually had to have an aortic valve replacement. He listened to me express my anxiety and offered to help me get counseling. I was not comfortable with that and asked for some medication… See more

from Alice in NC February 18, 2024 for Thomas C. Darrell, MD

We moved from Charlotte NC to Fuquay- Varina in June of 1994. My health was not good and I was taking several medications for joint and muscle pain. Dr. Thomas Darrell took me off all non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) and encouraged healthy lifestyle changes. All his suggestions have been beneficial to me and I am grateful for all his medical care these years. He listens with… See more

We have known Dr. Thomas Darrell from the first day he started practice at Fuquay Family ! He has always been compassionate and concerned about not only the immediate problems but about long term health care and educating us to make life down the road better and healthier. He has been there thru our life changes and challenges. He is a Godly man and even prayed with me following the sudden… See more

Dr. Darrell has been my Dr for over 10 years. While I appreciate his clinical capabilities and his "bedside manner", it is the way he lives his life that I most value.
Dr. Darrell is in his late 60"s but looks much younger as a result of diet and exercise. You are much more willing to listen to lifestyle advice from someone who "walks the talk". I am very… See more

from Eddie in NC March 11, 2023 for Thomas C. Darrell, MD

I have been a patient of Dr. Thomas C. Darrell for approximately 10 years. When I learned that he would be transitioning his practice to the MDVIP model, I had no idea of what to expect. However, when he explained his personal goals for providing care to his patients, and outlined the MDVIP model of practice, I was impressed enough to decide to join his MDVIP practice. Now that I have… See more
