He is just a phone call away when I need him. When I began to experience prostate issues in my early 60s, he paved the way for me to see a top specialist at UC San Francisco. It was very simple, and we got my situation into a well-managed regimen. When my wife commented on my sleep habits Dr. Hilty got me into a sleep center, and we found I had mild to moderate sleep apnea. He proceeded to set me up with the correct equipment and support network. He also referred me to a top orthopedic surgeon for two TKRs and has me dialed in to the top eye and cardiac specialists on the Central Coast. Dr. Hilty cares about my well-being and makes time for me as needed. The switch to MDVIP has spoiled my wife and me and has made Dr. Hilty an even finer physician. it is no secret that he is rated #1 around our area and there is a long wait list to join his practice. My husband and I have been patients of Dr. Hilty since 2001. When he joined MDVIP several years ago, we had no hesitation to join as he is that GOOD! Dr. Hilty is always up to date on the latest studies and informs us if anything pertains to our health or specific illnesses. He explains things so we can understand and makes sure we have time for questions. We have always been able to contact him and he responds in a reasonable time, during office hours or not. Once I was hospitalized out of town. I wish I had called him before going to the ER as he would have saved me a lot of worry. Dr. Hilty knew that a procedure two days before had caused the symptoms. My husband has recently had difficulty with increasing congestive heart failure. Dr. Hilty's office contacted us daily for weeks so meds could be adjusted quickly up or down, or meds added, to titrate a safe excretion of fluids. Help from Home Health and appropriate lab draws were ordered so my husband was closely watched. Along with good medical care, Dr. Stephen Hilty is a very caring and compassionate man. We have felt very supported throughout the years under his care and even more so with the loss of one of our sons recently. We are not just patients, Dr. Hilty makes us feel supported emotionally and physically.

My goal in primary care is to keep my attention centered on what is best for each patient. I strive to listen attentively and to allow patients time to describe their symptoms, tell me their story and share their goals and health concerns so that I can understand each patient’s unique situation. I then look for ways to partner with my patients to teach them in a personalized way how to best improve their personal health and well-being. I value continuity of care as I sense it often leads to a deeper, more meaningful, trusting relationship with my patients. I am also committed to staying abreast of the wide array of medical advances so that when it is appropriate I can apply the best that modern medicine has to offer to my patients. In sum, few things are more fulfilling and satisfying than being a part of helping someone adopt a healthy lifestyle or overcome or manage an illness and regain confidence, happiness and fulfillment in their life.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.

MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. We feel very fortunate to have Dr. Stephen Hilty as our primary care physician for over twenty years. Dr. Hilty is competent, knowledgeable, and a caring physician with excellent bed side manners. He makes us feel important during our annual visits with him and patiently addresses our concerns and questions in a simple and non-demeaning manner to which we are very grateful.

Dr. Hilty’s concern for our care is exhibited in many ways: 1) He would recommend physicians for a particular ailment as an orthopedic surgeon for Kingston’s knee problem; 2) He ensures safe travel abroad by providing a summary of our health history and medication in case the need arises, e.g., Paxlovid during the COVID pandemic; 3) He provides extra safety measures for Carol, who is immune compromised, by giving her monoclonal antibodies during the COVID pandemic; 4) He responds to our telephone calls and emails promptly when we have questions; 5) He interprets the laboratory results in layman’s terms for us within 24 hours of receiving the information; and lastly, 6) He ensures his nurses and receptionist have the same pleasant and caring attitude toward us and his patients.
