My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

My passion for the care of my patients goes beyond just the office visit. After a recent period of being the patient rather than the doctor, finding myself in a very serious situation and condition, I now have a very different viewpoint of what it’s like to be a patient facing death – and a new level of empathy and understanding to bring to my patients’ care that I just didn’t have to this degree before.
 
I completed my residency in family medicine at Palmetto Health/USC Richland Memorial Hospital and with residency and private practice, I have over 25 years of patient care practice experience here in Columbia. I enjoy the benefit of being able to offer my patients the care of great specialists in the southeast whom I know personally from either years of referrals or those with whom I was a resident 25 years ago!
 
My main focus of practice has been chronic disease management of diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and lipid abnormalities. I am also the guy who actually loves the challenge of making a diagnosis regardless of how difficult it is, however, I know when to pass the patient into the care of the specialists, when needed.
 
I chose to leave the ever more common way of practicing medicine for the MDVIP approach to healthcare, where the patient becomes the center of focus. I no longer have to practice medicine where the doctor only gets to spend 6-10 minutes with the patient. This is called volume-based medicine and I’ve decided it’s not for me.
 
I couldn’t be more excited about practicing true patient-centered healthcare in my MDVIP-affiliated practice where you and I can work together to create a happier, healthier you!

I came down with flu the day after Christmas. I feel Dr Fisher done everything imaginable to help me get better. He is a very caring Dr. My parents are seeing him now also and me is working on getting them back on the right track again.
Dr Fisher in my opinion is the best. He actually cares about his patients. No matter the time of day he reaches out to you to see if you ate ok.
