Meet Linda M. Gerrits, MD

I joined MDVIP so that I could have more time for personalized patient care in my private office located in Westlake Village. I provide the primary care for my patients, not a nurse practitioner or a nurse assistant. With me, you have time to ask your questions and for me to respond. 

Many of my patients want to emphasize wellness and preventive care. My MDVIP affiliation helps me do just that. I can provide a greater commitment of time and testing to help identify risk earlier. My MDVIP-affiliated practice offers services, including comprehensive, advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests, that go far beyond those found in concierge medicine practices. I want to take care of the “whole you,” both physical and emotional.

My philosophy of medicine is primum non nocere as Hippocrates, regarded as the father of medicine, said: “First, do no harm.” I listen to my patients, as I believe that understanding the needs and concerns of each patient is a primary tool for providing customized preventive care, more proper diagnosis, and appropriate treatment.   

I trained at the University of Michigan, and I am board certified in internal medicine and in nephrology, the specialty of medicine dealing with kidney disease. I have been on the staff of Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks for over 20 years, where I was the first woman elected chief of internal medicine. My primary care practice sees patients from Ventura to Woodland Hills, with some coming from as far as Temecula and Palmdale.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.

Dr Gerrits is supposed to be a VIP doctor who goes above and beyond to help her patients. My mom pays $2000 extra dollars a year for her service she provides. My mom recently was in the hospital for hallucinations, a brain bleed along with kidney damage. She had fallen and was adamant she saw a baby elephant walking down the street. It just so happened that her friend was there to pick her up for lunch. She drove her to the hospital where we learned of a brain bleed. Dr G said she was going to visit and never once did. She said she was going to call and never did. Later I asked her politely why she never came to visit my mom, like she said she was. She said, “I have my reasons.” I said which are…what? She had a long pause and then just hung up on me. She left. The receiver was put down and I was like doctor? Are you there? Hello? Doctor? Are you coming back? After about 30 seconds the receptionist answered and said can I help you? I said yeah I was just talking to the doctor and mid sentence she hung up on me. She said she wasn’t here she left and she’ll give her a message. Unbelievable. Absolutely absurd behavior from a professional. I don’t get the sense that she genuinely cares for her patients, at all.

Terrible Experience. Do not go as a new patient unless you are seeking sub-standard care. When will doctors realize they are responsible for their patients beyond the time they see you in their exam room. Their staff, the experience their patients have in the office, and after visit follow up are at least as important. At Dr. Gerritt's office this patient's experience was pathetic. Insulted, no follow up, no hours posted, no one picks up phone, terrible response to phone messages and e-mail, complaints not responded to. Follow up consists of chasing you for payment and then making you feel bad for office staff's personal troubles. I complained to my HMO and had heard nothing from that office for over three months and now I have someone calling for payment! Apparently my serious health condition is no reason for follow up, but a $150 charge gets a lot of attention. My new doctor is a consummate professional and the staff and organization are too.

Dr. Gerrits has been my primary care doctor since 1991 and I'm very fortunate to have found her. I've heard people complain about how difficult it is to get an appointment with their doctor and how they feel as if they are nothing more than a chart number in their doctor's practice, not so with Dr. Gerrits, she is very responsive and well informed on a wide variety of medical concerns and my appointments with her are like visiting with an old friend, someone who knows your entire medical history and is willing to spend all the time necessary to discuss and diagnose any new ailments. Also, she has a great staff! some of whom have been with her for at least 20 years! In an age of medical anonymity, Dr. Gerrits has managed to practice medicine the old fashioned way - one patient at a time.
