James P. Harkins, MD

I have been going to DR. Harkins for over 30 years, when I see him at the office for any problem I feel like I am talking to one of my brothers. He takes the time to listen to everything you have to say, whatever it is family or non family. During my time with Dr Harkins has been rewarding and sometimes emotional, recently my wife was going thru a rough 5 months with some stomach issues that finally got resolved a few weeks ago. At that time Dr Harkins stayed in contact with us the entire time helping us with any questions we had and lending us his support thru this troubling time. There were times in my family where people had numerous issues (to many to name) and the doctor was there for them. Thank God I met him some 30 years ago because we as a family could not think of a better man to go to than Dr. Harkins.

I have many stories about my doctor, Jim Harkins...too many to count. I have been with him for over 30
years. That does say something. He is always there for me and I have complete trust in his care.

A few years ago, I was having terrible stomach pain. I did call my GI doc but was told he could not see me for a week or so. I called Jim’s office and
was told to come in. As soon as he evaluated me- I was told to go right to the hospital where I was admitted (for 6 days) for diverticulitis.

I do tend to wait to make an appt- hoping to get better. As soon as I do see Jim however, I immediately know, he will help fix my issue. Believe it or not... sometimes I start to
feel better as soon as he walks into the room! He has a magic touch and a great staff- which completes the package.

In this day and age, I count myself fortunate to have such a knowledgeable, caring and empathetic physician.

Dr. Harkins is our family doctor and also was my father's primary physician. Early on in his relationship with my father (over 25 years ago) he detected a heart issue which ended up with my father having quadruple bypass surgery. Great catch. He continued to care for my father through the years. Even as my father's health deteriorated, he was kind and caring towards him doing whatever he could do. At one point near the end, we were in constant contact with Dr. Harkins and his staff for testing and other issues. Everyone had patience and actually cared about the patient. In the end my father passed and Dr. Harkins actually took time out from his busy schedule and attended the viewing. He cared for him until the end. You don't find this type of doctor/person very often. this is just one reason I have decided to remain a patient of Dr. Harkins.

A few months ago, my cardiologist suggested that I no longer need to take my blood thinning medications. I called Dr Harkins and, he in turn, called the
cardiologist and requested that I remain on the blood thinning medication. To make a long story short, a month later I suffered a heart attack, but did not sustain damage to my heart muscle. I believe if I had not stayed on my blood thinners, my heart attack would have been more serious.
The physicals he provides last over an hour. He is a kind and wonderful person. We often say, "If Dr Harkins ever retires, just put a pillow over our heads"!
