Meet Sandra Lerner, DO, MPH

My passion as your family doctor is to provide you with personalized healthcare with an emphasis on prevention, wellness and lifestyle approaches. I recognize that each patient comes to me with individual medical needs and lifestyle challenges that can require an individualized approach. In my MDVIP-affiliated practice, you can be treated like a member of my family in a warm and comfortable atmosphere. I will share my education, experience, compassion and dedication. I integrate my knowledge of medicine with nutritional, lifestyle and obesity medicine in a holistic way to help provide practical advice and partnership in health.

As a female physician, I have particular interests in women’s health, including menopausal health, weight loss, prediabetes and diabetes, as well as osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease prevention. Based on my more than 20 years’ experience in primary care, I aim to provide comprehensive care and work with my patients to help them pursue their health goals. My MDVIP-affiliated practice offers services, including comprehensive, advanced health screening and diagnostic tests, that go far beyond those found in concierge medicine practices. I also offer other conveniences like same- or next-day appointments with little to no waiting. Our visits can be relaxed and unrushed.

In my smaller practice, I can offer you more time together and a focus on prevention as well as reviewing illness. My dedicated staff and I are pleased to serve you and the greater Southeast Detroit, MI, area including Bloomfield Hills, West Bloomfield, Farmington Hills, Franklin, Bingham Farms, Beverly Hills, and Royal Oak.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.

I Love Dr Lerner. She was very instrumental in pushing to find out what was causing my health scares that wasn’t very easily diagnosed. If it wasn’t for her caring and persistence in getting to the root of my problem by bringing in multiple specialists to finally get a diagnosis that finally led to a treatment that is allowing me to resume life. Dr. Lerner has been my family care physician for over 9 years. I started out at Living Well with her and followed her to the MDVIP office in Southfield. There was always a wait at Living Well, but that was because Dr. Lerner is thorough with each assessment, and always takes time to make sure you understand the treatment and plan. There is virtually no wait time at the new office, because appointments are not scheduled in 10 to 15 minute blocks like Living Well was. The cost of the concierge service is definitely higher, but the care is worth every penny. Dr. Lerner truly knows me and my family, and she is able to treat us within a scope that cover physical and psychological well-being (as a whole person). I have not met a physician like her as a patient with chronic illness and as a RN for a decade (so I have met my fair share of physicians), and I recommend her care and trust her to the highest degree!

I love Dr. Lerner. She’s been my primary care doctor every since my previous one retired. Dr. Lerner cares a lot, so much she took it upon herself to reach out to me just to follow up and keep me updated on everything. She is an amazing doctor and has helped me through all my visit whether it was for a routine check up or something more serious. She’s almost like a mother figure to me as well and that’s part of why I love her, she makes every meeting and every discussion comfortable. My prescriptions are always on time and always sent to the right place and she always gets me in and out. Now both my nephews go to her and I couldn’t be happier. Only downside is that the front desk isn’t always that good. It’s been a couple of times where I couldn’t reach Dr Lerner and they said they’d relay the messages, although I don’t think they ever do. I recommend getting Dr Lerner’s email to contact her as the front desk isn’t reliable. The nurses and doctors here are wayyyyy better than the front desk.

Dr Lerner is an excellent HC provider and I have hears that Dr Citron is as good in terms of bedside manner and current up to date knowledge.

However, time and time again the reception/intake staff are less than stellar when calling in for basic tasks. I realize that it's a tough customer service situation; however the poor followup, mediocre phone manner and # of hangups when put on hold is something that really takes away from the patient experience.

I've been coming here for a few years. Anytime I need an urgent appointment, I have to make in advance. They even had me come in one time to wait 6 hours to be seen. I just went to urgent care. The real issue is they denied me any medication or treatment while I had the Corona virus. She kept taking me for virtual appointments 3 times to look at me and say "Awww... I can't help you." I felt helpless. I would have died if it wasn't for urgent care. I had double pneumonia and I have asthma. The lack of care in this situation was beyond me. I will never go back. On a positive note. She was very nice as she told me she couldn't help me. 😕

Can’t speak for Dr.Learner her self but had a very disheartening encounter with Dr.Rothenberg who was very rude , condescending and just plain ole unprofessional. Never have I ever been to a practice and was humiliated and embarrassed in the lobby infront of patients for asking to speak with Dr.Learner whenever she has a chance . I was prompted to leave multiple times even though I shared I was okay with waiting and do understand that she was seeing patients at the time . It’s a way to deal with people and her and the front desk woman show that they lack compassion and professionalism.

Didn't even make an appointment the receptionist was very rude towards me. I would recommend to not call this office if your looking for your first ever primary care provider later in life. I finally have health insurance through my employer for the first time EVER in my life and the receptionist chose to talk down to me and scoff as if I was suppose to know how everything worked.

Service really has been going downhill lately. Although the Doctors are wonderful, everything else is not. When I first started coming here, it was easy to get an appointment or come in on short notice for a serious issue. My prescriptions were also filled in a timely manner. Now, if a I need to see a doctor, it's almost impossible to get in due to overbooking. I'm usually referred to an urgent care clinic. Before I was able to have my pharmacist call to have basic prescriptions called in so I wouldn't run out. Now, you have to call the office ahead of time to fill them electronically. The Doctors are so busy now, it's going to take 5 days for them to fill my prescriptions I needed 2 days ago. Not what it used to be.

Staff was very friendly and nurses were great! However, Dr. Lerner was condescending and misleading. I had a few questions and nearly every one of them was met with a patronizing tone and body language. I am a younger adult, but I do hope for a certain amount of respect. She was quick to suggest prescriptions even though I told her multiple times I was not interested in taking medication for any reason. Lastly, Dr. Lerner explained to me that there was (in her words) a 'complementary blood test' for new patients. So I was surprised to have received a bill for my 'lab results'. As a college student I would not have agreed to anything that would have extended my bill. Will be finding a new primary.

This was the worst patient care I've ever experienced. I was an established patient with Dr. Lerner and looked past the poor experiences I had with the her in the past. Months after my last appointment, I had a concern so I called the office 3 times, leaving messages on the machine and with the receptionist. It has been weeks and I've still not received a call back from anyone at the office.

I will never go back to this office or Dr. Lerner again.

Overall good doctor, but very inadequate front desk staff. Referrals aren't done on time and when they are done, they're done wrong. I went for PT for my knee and they wrote the referral for my back! It's extremely hard to get a same day sick appt, even with asthma attacks. The front desk puts you on hold for 10 minutes and answers again, can I help you? They forgot they even put me on hold! The office manager and doctors are aware of the issues with the front desk, but not much has changed.

Dr Lerner even told my husband NOT to take me to the hospital when I hadn't been able to even drink fluids for over 48 hours with a high fever, saying I was exaggerating my symptoms... My husband did take me to the ER and I was so dehydrated the hospital gave me multiple bags of IV fluids before I had any urine output and I was spilling ketones in my urine! Dr Lerner never addressed the issue afterward.

Also, watch the billing being done. They tried to charge me for a test they didn't even complete. The office manager did correct this after I complained.

She has been very responsive as expected as using her in a concierge practice. I feel I have my go to doc for the rest of my years and with her help that will be awhile.
