My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

Remember the days of old-fashioned primary care, where family doctors had personal relationships with all their patients, made hospital visits and house calls, and had time to really listen and answer questions? In the current healthcare environment, those days are long gone. But in my MDVIP-affiliated practice, I strive to come close to that ideal model of primary care, combined with 21st century medicine.

My practice affords me the time to develop a personal relationship with you, perform comprehensive exams and thoroughly discuss test results, make hospital visits, coordinate care with local specialists, and assist you in better making informed healthcare decisions. Similar to conveniences often associated with concierge medicine practices, I also offer same- or next-day appointments that start on time. 

In addition, I will partner with you to craft a customized plan to better treat your current health problems and prevent new ones. We will focus on disease prevention and early diagnosis , along with wellness and a healthy lifestyle. 

I’ve been a family doctor for over 25 years and have also served in the U.S. Navy. My areas of interest include heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and preventive healthcare. I’ve developed relationships with specialists and other healthcare providers in the community. 

My primary care practice serves the Wilmington, Greenville, Pike Creek, Hockessin, Newark and Bear areas of northern Delaware, as well as neighboring communities in Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey. I am affiliated with Christiana Hospital.

We met Dr. Schaeffer when our son rotated through his office from Jefferson Medical School. Another connection is that Dr. Schaeffer was a Navy doctor. Dr. Schaeffer was interested in our sons' challenges with a young family and military deployments to Afghanistan and Somalia. Dr. Schaeffer is a very knowledgeable professional who cares about his patients.
