My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

Over the years, I have treated patients with complex internal medicine and cardiac conditions, and these experiences have led me to the strong belief that the most effective kind of medical care is prevention. Hence, my practice philosophy has evolved into a proactive, collaborative approach to wellness. The MDVIP practice model enables the time and structure to effectively carry out this philosophy. I am passionate about providing the highest quality, patient-centered clinical care.

After completing my undergraduate studies at Washington University in St. Louis, I received both my MD and PhD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. The majority of my postgraduate training was at Columbia University Medical Center in New York. After completing an internal medicine residency, I remained on faculty at Columbia for a year where I served as a chief resident in the Department of Medicine. I completed a general cardiology fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City before returning to Columbia for a fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology.

My practice is located in Chevy Chase, Maryland, walking distance from the DC Metro Friendship Heights stop. 24 hour coverage and same-day appointments are tenets of my practice model. I have hospital privileges at Suburban Hospital, Sibley Memorial Hospital and George Washington University Hospital, where I am an Assistant Professor of Medicine. I have been named as a Top Doctor in Washingtonian Magazine since 2014.

Testimonials from patients of Dr. Shapiro

from Eric in MD February 28, 2018 for Scott Shapiro, MD, PhD

My life would be very different (or even non-existent) without Dr Shapiros action and keen insight. I feel that I have a very positive and strong relationship with him, and hope that Im granted several more years in his care.

from Lynn in DC February 27, 2018 for Scott Shapiro, MD, PhD

Scott Shapiro sets the gold standard. Hes responsive, attentive in and out of the office, compassionate, practical, a terrific listener (even though hes swamped Ive never felt rushed), great diagnostician, respectful of his patients preferences and more. Im blessed to have transitioned to Shapiros care after 20 plus years with his predecessor (who retired). Skipping the details, he guided me… See more
