About Tommy T. Kuo, MD
I believe practicing good medicine includes a partnership between doctor and patient. Creating personalized plans for my patients to help them address current problems and prevent new ones has always been my goal. As an MDVIP-affiliated primary care physician, I have more time to develop closer relationships with my patients. As your personal doctor, I have more time to work with you as a team and formulate a wellness plan that can help you as you pursue your health goals. There are no shortcuts to being healthier and no simple formulas or one-size-fits-all approaches when it comes to the well-being of my patients. My primary care practice is focused on you and how we can help you make a happier, healthier future a reality.
With 31 years of practicing in the community, I have relationships with specialists and I can refer you, if necessary. As a primary care physician, I have interests in mental health, weight management, preventive medicine, fitness and well-being. My MDVIP-affiliated practice offers services, including comprehensive, advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests, that go far beyond those found in concierge medicine practices. I also offer conveniences like same- or next-day appointments with minimal waiting – both in-person appointments and tele-health appointments per patient’s preference.
I practice in the San Mateo, California, area. I have privileges at Mills-Peninsula Medical Center and work with independent labs, such as Quest Diagnostics, Lab Corp, and Sutter affiliated labs. I am an associate professor of family medicine at USC and have been chair of family medicine at Mills-Peninsula Medical Center. I also speak Fukienese, and we have staff that speak Spanish.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.

MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
