MDVIP Grows to 1,000 Primary Care Doctors Nationally

MDVIP was started in 2000 by two primary care doctors who were frustrated with the healthcare system losing its way. They knew there had to be a better way to care for their patients and for themselves.

“Rather than being controlled by insurance companies and third parties, we wanted to take back our practices so we could spend more quality time with our patients,” said Dr. Bernie Kaminetsky, co-founder of MDVIP and MDVIP’s current Medical Director. “Being able to take a more personal, proactive approach to patient care was even more inspiring.”

Over the past two decades, these ideas transformed into a successful practice model for doctors and patients — 97 percent of members report they are satisfied with their doctor-patient relationship and more than 90 percent renew every year.

You also probably know about our nine published studies, which show patients in MDVIP-affiliated practices experience 70 percent fewer hospitalizations and utilize emergency rooms and urgent care at much lower rates than patients in traditional primary care practices. MDVIP-affiliated physicians also identified 40 percent more patients at risk for heart disease, one study showed, through advanced testing, which is included in the MDVIP Wellness Program. And patients in MDVIP-affiliated practices with diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol surpassed the top 10 percent of national HMO and PPO benchmarks for managing these conditions, according to another study.
