Dr Chaconas changed my life for the better. On first complete physical, he found I had a hereditary cholesterol risk factor, that was quite serious. I'm sure I will live much longer now with his help. I can't put a price on the quality of care I have been given. I would pay 5 times as much for this level of care. When I had a problem he listened to me , and my symptoms, and didn… See more
My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...
As a board certified family medicine physician, with over 25 years of experience, I have spent my entire career concentrating on all aspects of health. As an extension of my commitment to preventive health, I also became one of only 21 doctors in Virginia to be board certified in Clinical Lipidology. My regional referral center, the Center for Advanced Lipid Management in Roanoke, helps many patients in southwest Virginia and I bring the same heart attack prevention expertise to my primary care practice at Smith Mountain Lake. I treat my patients as I would want to be treated, always going the extra mile to explain things in an easy to understand, friendly and non-confrontational manner. I love what I do.
On a personal note, I have other passions, which are spending time with my wife, kids and dog. My hobbies include golf and playing guitar.

I have always appreciated Dr Chaconas's level of responsiveness and curiosity. He takes his time and tries to fully understand symptoms. His expertise in lipids is especially helpful to me, given my history with high cholesterol. He is also very direct in answering questions, prioritizing treatment approaches and making recommendations for treatment. Very easy to talk with and never… See more
On more than one occasion Dr. Chaconas has gone the extra mile for me. He has quickly obtained referrals when needed, something Ive found difficult in this area with other physicians; he went to bat for me with my insurance company to obtain an expensive medication that could easily have been denied but thats made a tremendous difference in the quality of my life. Most importantly, he takes… See more
In my opinion Dr Chaconas is one of the most knowledgeable doctors Ive ever know. If it were not for Dr Chaconas my husband would not be alive today. He has the quick ability to diagnose a health problem and if in doubt run test to confirm his thinking. If he cant handle your problem.... Hes quick to refer you to a specialist that can. (And theyre usually the best in their field). There… See more
I feel extremely well cared for and cared about. I feel that Dr. Chaconas understands me and my problems. He is not judgmental or scolding, he just recommends what he thinks is best for me. I feel like I have a close connection with the office...as if they are a quasi family for me, since I don't have one of my own.
Dr C is wonderful. Hes been my doctor for 20+ years (OMG is it really that long?) Hes always been there to help me with any problems that have come up. When my son was younger and had problems concentrating in class. Dr C advised that we could take him to a center nearby to test him for ADD and pay a lot of $$ or just try the medicine. If the medicine works, then thats what it is! His re-… See more
George has made me start to exercise, eat right, and start to stretch. I have also starting to walk more consistently so I can lose a few pounds too. He has not berated me but encouraged me to be better and at 67 years old I do feel better and I owe that to him for caring about how I feel.
