About Amy Thomas, MD

My passion for personalized care hinges on the unique relationship I create with each patient. As a family medicine doctor, I deeply value the long-lasting commitment to your health as we partner together. I cherish the trust you place in me to act as your physician. In my MDVIP practice, extended appointments will give us the time to build a close relationship and devote individualized attention to each of your health care needs. As we perform a yearly comprehensive exam, and attend to acute and chronic needs, we will develop a plan for a healthy future.

As one of the few female MDVIP-affiliated physicians in San Antonio, I am able to provide care specific to women’s health. With comprehensive pediatrics training, I also welcome patients of all ages, including infants, children, and teenagers. I also offer conveniences, like same- or next-day appointments that start on time, which may be found in concierge medicine practices.

I attended college at Texas A&M University and completed my medical training at UT Medical School San Antonio. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have 3 daughters. I understand the goal of a healthy lifestyle for a happy future with the ones we love the most. I enjoy golf, cooking and any kind of outdoor exercise. I feel that a well-balanced life is fundamental to your overall wellness.

Please join me in my MDVIP-affiliated practice to begin focusing on improving your health.

What our members are saying

My mother is 98 years old. She was exposed to Covid by one of her caregivers. Dr. Thomas came to my mother’s home to test her for Covid. My mother made it through the 14 days without symptoms. After the fourteen day waiting period was over, Dr. Thomas came back to my mother’s home to give her a flu shot. Dr. Thomas is an outstanding physician!!!!

Dr. Thomas is amazing! I highly recommend her to everyone. She listens and cares instead of just dismissing your complaints.

Dr Amy Thomas has been my PCP for a couple of years now. I am extremely impressed with her and they way she handles her patients. She is direct, thorough, extremely knowledgeable and has excellent bedside manner. She keeps excellent notes and makes me feel like we just visited the day before because she picks up right where we left off. Her staff is equally efficient and fabulous! I am so blessed to have found her!!

I recommend MDVIP and Dr. Amy Thomas when I have the opportunity to do so. She has been so helpful and informative! Her whole staff is friendly and helpful, as well.

Dr Amy Thomas is a fantastic, caring Dr. I was diagnosed with cancer shortly after I became her patient. She was so thoughtful and helped research Drs & treatment for me, she followed up after my initial surgery and has followed along with my chemo & radiation and has been praying for me throughout this journey. I appreciate her so much!

I have been involved with the MDVIP model for almost a year now and I can’t be happier. Dr. Amy Thomas has been phenomenal. Compared to the care I had prior to finding MDVIP and Dr. Thomas and her amazing staff is a godsend. Feels like it did when I was a kid and we actually had a personal physician that knew us and really cares about us!!! I am always recommending MDVIP to all my friends and family!!

For all of you who have doctors that simply come in the room and barely greet you, stand there like you are taking up their precious time, I got to tell you, Dr. Amy Thomas is the epitome of doctors. At my appointment, I get quality time with her. An actual "sit down" conversation. I feel like she listens to me and cares what I tell her. She is very pleasant and soft spoken. Her staff is also great. I am part of MDVIP and for those who can afford it, it's worth every penny. So you say, "your paying for her nice service". Yes, I am, but otherwise you are stuck with the other doctors who just don't care or have the time for you. So for me, it's a no brainer.

I am about to complete two full years with Dr. Amy Thomas' MDVIP. I would like to take the time to thank her for making an unusual situation work for my care. My husband and I travel six plus months doing volunteer work throughout the US. I hesitated in joining the practice because of a distance issue. Dr. Amy has gone above and beyond to meet with me through tele health, find places I could do my labs, and arrange to send prescriptions to various constantly changing pharmacies. It has been wonderful to know that I could call her at any time and she would help me with whatever I needed or refer me to another MDVIP nearby. We have worked together to handle ongoing issues when I am in town or out traveling. What a comfort!

It has taken me a while to understand that health is more than not being sick. I used to only go to visit the doctor when I felt really sick. Get in and get out and get on with your life. Now I have learned that I can go for help with being healthy too. There is so much information out there, I need someone to help me decode all of it. I have discovered I can get help with self-care from Dr. A Thomas and her staff. They have time to listen to me and my concerns. They are there for everything not just being miserably ill. Because there is more to living a good life than not being sick. Thank you.

Dr. Amy Thomas is very rude and doesn’t listen to any of the issues my mother is dealing with. My mother visited an allergist for a possible ear infection/pneumonia when my mother went to see Ms. Thomas she became upset because my mother visited an allergist. Ms. Thomas claimed she should have been the first and only one to know about my mothers symptoms. She is very smug about everything. My mother will be leaving this practice ASAP.

I have been seeing Dr Thomas for years now. In 2014 I started having symptoms that just did not make sense. I went through about 8 months of all kinds of test. She finally, sent me to a Rheumatologist. This Doctor also performed various tests and finally I got a diagnosis of Lupus which is an autoimmune disease and can be very difficult to diagnose. I have great faith in Dr. Thomas.

I was a patient of Dr. Thomas from 2002-2005 (age of 14-17). She didn't take any of my issues seriously because of my age. After pushing pills on me for years, "Dr" Thomas decided to send me for a psychological evaluation before even considering running a single medical test.

I refused to see her again but my mother refused to bring me to another doctor.

At the end of 2015 I almost died due to malnutrition caused by an autoimmune condition that went undiagnosed for over half my life.

All the medication she put me on was making me sick due to sever allergies that don't present in typical fashion. She then told my mother I was crazy simply because she refused to admit she had no clue what was going on.

I just turned 30 and am physically disabled. Her pride will cause you to suffer unnecessarily and I highly recommend you seek a second opinion.

DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN TO THIS "DOCTOR"

I absolutely love Dr. Thomas. She understands her patients, she listens intently and wants to find the problem and resolve your health issues quickly. She is a great physician and I couldn't recommend her enough. Thank you Dr. Thomas for the care that you provide. You are awesome!!!!

Frequently Asked Questions

Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.

MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
