My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

I relocated with my wife to the heart of the Rocky Mountains 20 years ago from the East Coast. I did this mainly for the beauty of the mountains and the unparalleled outdoor activities. My regular exercise routine includes biking, hiking and cross-country skiing and has been instrumental in my wellness. My goal is to share that passion for wellness with you to help you achieve your health care goals. Your goal may be to feel as well as you can for as long as you can, to set a personal best time on your bike ride to the Maroon Bells or it may be both! I offer the MDVIP Wellness Program Plus, comprised of advanced diagnostic tests, including a heart disease screening developed with Cleveland HeartLab and a brain health screening, that can better detect certain risk factors earlier, along with a personalized medication management program to help make your medications safer and more effective.

My internal medicine practice is located in Basalt, Colorado, 15 miles north of Aspen. My practice focuses on providing personalized care and attention and is the only one of its kind in the Roaring Fork Valley. I have a particular interest in cardiovascular health. I am the medical director of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Aspen Valley Hospital, where I am on staff. I also enjoy endocrine medicine and have a certified diabetes educator and dietician in my office. For those interested in setting personal goals, we have the ability to perform VO2 max testing in the office!

Dr. Borchers became my primary care physician after cardiac arrest and a 5-way bypass. Since then he has guided me through colon cancer a major infection and kidney failure. I am now dealing with A Fib and appreciate that he allows me to have an opinion on my ongoing care with concerns for keeping me alive. He has kept me alive for 28 years since my cardiac arrest. Thank you so much doc.

from Stephen in CO February 11, 2024 for David J. Borchers, MD

As I was monitored by the surgical team at Anschutz Medical Center this past July, my nearly daily follow up by Dr. Borchers, my primary care, was not surprising as it has been for over 15 years of that level of caring and close attention, but checking in on me while vacationing with his family in Europe was certainly unexpected but greatly appreciated. It's who he is!

It is not ONE thing, it is EVERYTHING that Dr. David Borchers and his staff do for me whether it is getting me a quick response for a concern or a test via the phone; or, "squeezing" me in for an appointment within a day to address a health issue. Dr. Borchers' caring, expertise, and listening skills are something that I have never found in another physician no matter the… See more

from Kathy in CO February 10, 2024 for David J. Borchers, MD

Several years ago, I had a surgery and was recovering at home. I don't even remember what the issue was, but I called Dr. Borchers with a question. Back then there was no online "portal" and it was after office ours. He called within 15 minutes, and was, as usual, very helpful and supportive. He sounded a long way away so I asked where he was. "My family and I are… See more

In September of 2022, after having an excellent and complete physical the week before, I was experiencing pain for 5 days, which I thought was reflux. On day 6 I called Dr Borchers and he had me come in right away. He did another EKG and said it was slightly different than the one a week earlier…probably just the difference in the technician performing it. To play it safe he sent me to the… See more

I was lucky to become a patient of Dr. Borchers when I moved to the Roaring Fork Valley 25 years ago. I was sick and in need of a doctor. My experience with other docs was they would prescribe something for me and I’d never hear from them. After seeing David Borchers, he called me everyday, making sure I was improving! And, that has been my experience whenever I’ve needed him!

from Michael in CO February 6, 2024 for David J. Borchers, MD

No single moment stands out. But every moment does. On every interaction, it is palpable that my wellbeing is top of mind for "Dr. Dave" and his team.

from Terry in CO January 29, 2024 for David J. Borchers, MD

It is difficult to write about Dr. David Borchers without using all superlatives. As a kicking and screaming transplant from New York, I choose to live in Colorado for two reasons: 1. my devoted son has a home here; and 2. I have Dr. Borchers as my primary. It is easy for me to pick out a moment when Dr. Borchers excelled beyond anyone's wildest hope. I thought I would live part-time… See more

from Susan in CO January 25, 2024 for David J. Borchers, MD

My doctor, David Borchers, has been my doctor for 20 years. I always have appreciated the care he provided but the day came when I believe he really saved me from having a major stroke. By giving me a brief checkup when I came in with some flu like symptoms he heard something in my carotid artery he didn’t like and had me get a several tests. From those he learned that I had a very blocked… See more
