About David J. Borchers, MD

I relocated with my wife to the heart of the Rocky Mountains 20 years ago from the East Coast. I did this mainly for the beauty of the mountains and the unparalleled outdoor activities. My regular exercise routine includes biking, hiking and cross-country skiing and has been instrumental in my wellness. My goal is to share that passion for wellness with you to help you achieve your health care goals. Your goal may be to feel as well as you can for as long as you can, to set a personal best time on your bike ride to the Maroon Bells or it may be both! I offer the MDVIP Wellness Program Plus, comprised of advanced diagnostic tests, including a heart disease screening developed with Cleveland HeartLab and a brain health screening, that can better detect certain risk factors earlier, along with a personalized medication management program to help make your medications safer and more effective.

My internal medicine practice is located in Basalt, Colorado, 15 miles north of Aspen. My practice focuses on providing personalized care and attention and is the only one of its kind in the Roaring Fork Valley. I have a particular interest in cardiovascular health. I am the medical director of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Aspen Valley Hospital, where I am on staff. I also enjoy endocrine medicine and have a certified diabetes educator and dietician in my office. For those interested in setting personal goals, we have the ability to perform VO2 max testing in the office!

I was lucky to become a patient of Dr. Borchers when I moved to the Roaring Fork Valley 25 years ago. I was sick and in need of a doctor. MDVIP-affiliated physicians use the Wellness Program Plus to help prevent little things from becoming big things – working to help patients enjoy life and be healthier. Those who value their health will appreciate having a closer doctor-patient relationship. Because MDVIP-affiliated physicians have smaller practices, they have more time for you, so you can receive the individualized care and service you deserve. Physicians offering the Plus program have a different set of testing to choose from than physicians in the traditional program; this testing looks at additional health risks. Plus doctors also use an advanced cognitive testing system to evaluate brain health and offer a medication review program.

MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.
