Convenience When You Need It

Choosing the right primary care physician (PCP) is a very important decision, as your PCP serves as the quarterback of your healthcare. They perform annual examinations, manage chronic diseases, educate you on preventive care and refer you to specialists. While many factors are involved when selecting a PCP, one of the most important considerations is availability and convenience. Here’s why.

If you catch a virus, experience a chronic condition flare-up, or injure yourself, you’ll want to see your doctor right away, not in two weeks, which is the average time it takes to schedule an appointment with a current PCP (four weeks for a new PCP). Of course, if you’re not feeling well, you’ll want to be taken right away for your appointment, as opposed to waiting 18 minutes, the average PCP waiting room time. Lastly, you want your doctor to provide unhurried appointments that address all your questions. The average PCP appointment lasts between 7 and 18 minutes, and patients report feeling rushed.

This is why when MDVIP founders imagined a better way to deliver primary care, availability and convenience were at the top of their wish list. And this is why they incorporated same- or next-day appointments, shorter waiting times and unhurried visits into the MDVIP model. Here’s how one member explains it.

[This is] Convenience when you need it. I've been an MDVIP participant now for three years, and Dr. Thompson has been nothing but the best. He never makes us feel like we are bothering him. He is always responsive to any questions we have and helps us with medical issues, even when we are not making an office visit, and when we are traveling. He is truly one of the best, and I would recommend him to everyone!

And since medical emergencies don’t always occur during standard office hours, MDVIP-affiliated physicians are also available after hours for urgent and emergent issues.
