Your Doctor Can Help You Even When You’re Traveling

Nobody likes to get sick – especially when they’re on vacation. But sickness happens, unfortunately, no matter where we are. You can sprain an ankle in Peru or get food poisoning in Italy. You can lose your luggage – and your prescription meds — on the first leg of your dream trip.

But what do you do if the sniffles hit you on the slopes? Or you experience Montezuma’s revenge in Mexico City?

That’s where your membership comes in. First, call your MDVIP-affiliated physician. In most cases, they can help you over the phone. However, if the problem is more complex, they can direct you to a local solution – from calling in a new prescription to a local pharmacy to arranging a visit with another physician or helping you find a nearby hospital.

Here’s an example of how the advantage can work from a member of Dr. Prasanth Gogineni's MDVIP-affiliated practice in Florida:

“On a recent trip to the Florida Keys, my insulin pump shorted out in the pool, which meant I couldn’t get insulin into my body. Scary stuff. Unfortunately, I also didn’t have a prescription for syringes, which unfortunately Monroe County requires. It was Saturday, and the pharmacist suggested I go wait at urgent care for hours to get one. But my MDVIP-affiliated doctor was able to call in a prescription right then, I was able to get what I needed to inject insulin, and we were able to stay in the Keys. Vacation saved!”

In rare cases, you may be too sick to stay where you are. That’s why MDVIP has partnered with Medjet® to offer discounted air medical transport memberships for patients who travel more than 150 miles from home on business or pleasure, domestic or international trips. Visit Medjet to learn more

If you have an out-of-town guest and family member visiting you that need medical help, your MDVIP-affiliated doctor may be able to see them. Many MDVIP-affiliated physicians can see out-of-town guests for sick visits and urgent matters.

Standard office visit fees may apply; if you have questions about this benefit, please talk to your MDVIP-affiliate physician.

Getting sick when you’re away from home isn’t fun. But you can have peace of mind knowing your MDVIP-affiliated doctor is just a phone call away if you need help.
