I’ve been practicing family medicine in San Antonio for decades. Even though I’ve kept up with the ongoing demands, I didn’t feel like I was giving my best to my patients. In fact, I was so burned out, I felt like I was going to go down in a blaze of glory. So, after 30 years of doing things “the insurance company way”, I’ve made a change. I’ve opened an MDVIP-affiliated practice. My new practice model is smaller, enabling me to move away from cookie-cutter care, and focus on personalized medicine and put relationships over rush. Patients even have my phone number. You can learn more about my new practice by reading this coverage from the San Antonio Report.

About the Physician
Walter Walthall IV, MD

I am a board-certified family practice physician located in Northeast San Antonio, TX. I have served the San Antonio community for over 23 years, following in the footsteps of my grandfather, who practiced in the same region for over 50 years. My grandfather was far and away the most influential person in my life. He used to tell me that, as a physician, ”When I walk into a room with a patient, I am not the expert in the room: the patient is.” He also told me that if I listened long enough, I can learn how I might support them. I have never forgotten that and aim to follow his advice every day.

My mission is to provide God-centered, compassionate, evidence-based care that focuses on the whole person, building a unique and individualized care plans that can help patients as they pursue their goals of better physical health, emotional wellness and spiritual vitality. My aim is to walk alongside patients, nurturing and building a trusting doctor-patient relationship that allows for open discussions about healthier living. This approach to medicine, placing encouragement and empowerment on the individual person, I believe, can help lend itself to a patient working toward better outcomes focused on their needs and desires.

My MDVIP-affiliated practice offers services, including comprehensive, advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests, that go far beyond those found in concierge medicine practices. I offer same- or next-day appointments with minimal waiting. Yes, we have a waiting room. No, you will not spend much time in it. I look forward to meeting you, sitting down and developing a personalized health plan that can help address your needs and concerns.
