Meet Jane Z. Cai, MD, MS

Over nearly two decades of practicing geriatric medicine, I’ve learned that adequately addressing the healthcare needs of an aging patient requires both compassion and careful attention to detail. I’ve found that with a comprehensive and holistic approach to medicine, I’ve been able to manage even the most complex patients with the rarest conditions.

Unfortunately, the hectic pace and overbearing bureaucratic nature of modern medicine is preventing healthcare providers from performing at their highest levels. For my entire career, I have fought hard to keep my solo practice afloat while striving to provide the best possible care to my patients. At this point in my life, I am very fortunate to be in a position that allows me to finally practice medicine the way I have always dreamed. I have decided to switch my practice to the MDVIP model which allows me to fully prioritize and address the healthcare goals of my patients.

It all starts with prevention. Heart attacks and strokes are the two most debilitating diseases for my patients, but both are highly preventable with the right management plans. My patients and I work together as a team to decrease their risk for these diseases by thoroughly addressing each and every risk factor. Comprehensive yearly physical exams are the first step to achieving this goal. Earlier detection means earlier treatment.

I have been practicing 18 years in Lake County, Florida and am very lucky to have close relationships with local specialists should you need to see one. Medication regimes can be especially confusing for my patients who take over a dozen different medications and supplements. With my masters in pharmaceutics, I make a special effort to fully evaluate the necessity of each drug or supplement you take to create optimized and easy to understand plans. I have professional affiliations with both Villages Regional Hospital and Leesburg Regional Medical Center.

Dr Cai is one of the most experienced and compassionate physician that I have ever met! She truly listens to your concerns and then do whatever it takes to get down to a diagnosis.. she thinks outside of the normal protocol to get down to the root of your issues. I respect the fact that she's about preventive medicine also! She's an internist that's cares about your overall health and prevention of illnesses. I can honestly say she a great diagnostician! For example I have seen many docs for excruciating pain that I had in my neck and shoulders and went to my previous doctor as well as several visits to the ER only to leave with no answers and no relief.. only when I saw Dr Cai on the FIRST visit she diagnosed and treated my condition and within a few hours my pain was relieved!! Nice parking lot with large shade trees, and close-by parking; comfortable waiting area with short wait times; friendly, knowledgeable nurses; doctor is very thorough and easy to communicate with; facility has an exceptional amount of in-house diagnostic capability; doctor provides sample meds when available, and she is proactive in arranging least expensive prescriptions within my insurance plan; some recommended specialists not up to my expectations/standards, however, those I particularly liked were dermatologist, Charles Knapp MD, and podiatrist, Johnny Wu MD. Overall rating of Dr. Cai is top notch. While she can be demanding, I am certain her intention is for my optimum health. I have never had lower cholesterol, for example. But after so many new-patient tests in the past year, I do hope to minimize my visits to Dr. Cai this year!

Many times when I get the bill for the retaining fee I grumble about the price, do I really need to do this, can I really afford it anymore etc. I have not used it often but when I need it Dr.Cai is always there. I listen to people complain about getting a new doctor and all of a sudden they have left, and the process starts all over again. Dr Cai cares about her patients and listens during our visits. When there is a problem, she addresses it quickly and makes sure you see the right people to address the issue.

After we were patients for a while, my wife developed some minor symptoms that might have been overlooked by some doctors that barely know their patients names. Out of concern, she sent us to the best womens group in the central Florida even though it wasn't the closest. My wife was diagnosed and treated for cancer very early thanks to her methodical approach. My wife is now cancer free and much of that is due to Dr Cai being on top of our care.

I went to this woman because my b/p was reading 170/90 over 2 weeks. She said it's not high because it is consistent. My Cardiologist said..."Consistently High".!! When I had a urinary tract infection, her office staff advised "need to make an appointment". I went to Urgent Care same day, and was given prescription...that's a miserable pain to endure until you "make an appointment". In addition, the waiting room time is usually 1.0 hr. then exam room for another 30 minutes. A woman from my church doesn't go to her anymore because.... "She is in it for the money". And she charges $1 per page if you want copies any of your vital records." Shame on her.

My husband and I have known Dr. Cai since 2005. The care we have received from her has been exemplary. She is knowledgeable and well-informed on current medical practices and medications. We found her to be concerned with us as individuals and with our personal concerns, taking time to discuss those concerns and if necessary, referring us to specialists. Solutions to medical problems are discussed, questions fully answered, and decisions made with our input.
In addition, the entire staff has treated us with the utmost courtesy and professionalism. They are friendly and proficient.

I have been a patient of Dr Cai for about 18 years. Having worked in the medical profession, I knew what I wanted and did not want in my doctor. I did not want a doctor who took calls during my examination. I did not want to feel like I was “on the clock” while I was sharing my physical
/emotional issues. I did not want an office stall that was curt and lack tolerance and understanding of what patients are going through when looking for assistance. On our first visit she was so focused on selling us support hosiery that I don't think she even paid attention to our real needs. We had to wait almost 2 hours to see the Great Though Art on our first visit. After that we would wait at least an hour and I even caught her bypassing me to take care of someone else who came in way after me. That was it for me! I walked out. She's a greedy greedy woman and doesn't care a bit about her patients. Good riddance to this one. Her staff was wonderful, however.
