Meet Michael J. Downing, MD

I became an internist to fulfill my goal of providing an overall better healthcare experience. I believe in treating my patients as I would my family. As an MDVIP-affiliated primary care physician, I am able to develop personalized healthcare plans for all of my patients. We focus on wellness and prevention and effectively manage acute and chronic conditions. The close relationships I am able to develop with my patients fosters open communication in an unrushed environment, which is imperative to providing the comprehensive care you deserve. 

My affiliation with MDVIP has helped me practice internal medicine the way I was trained and allows me the time to develop educational programs for my patients, deliver prompt care and expand my services in many other areas, including preventive medicine, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, weight loss and nutritional counseling. I also offer conveniences, like same- or next-day appointments that start on time, which may be found in concierge medicine practices.

I continue to offer care in the office, hospital and at home when appropriate. My personalized healthcare practice serves the greater Baltimore, Maryland area and Anne Arundel County, including Glen Burnie, Pasadena, Millersville, Severna Park, Annapolis, Severn, Linthicum Heights, Arnold and Crofton. 

I am affiliated with Baltimore Washington Medical Center as an attending physician.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.

He listens to what you have to say, takes the time with you to explain how and what is needed to take care of your problem, and follows up with you as needed. Dr. Downing is the reason I belong to MDVIP. If I become hospitalized for any reason he would not be able to be active in my care yet I would still be paying my MDVIP fees. As long as I am healthy MDVIP is great. I get appointments right away. I always have a list of questions when I am in the office and I am allotted a more than reasonable amount of time to get my questions answered. Before MDVIP it might have taken a day or 2 to get an appointment. Dr Downing is much more relaxed.

Dr Downing... is fantastic !! he is easy to talk to and is always compassionate and caring!
He is always very good about returning phone calls during office hours and sometimes after office hours. I would highly recommend him he is definitely the best doctor I have ever had!
I am very thankful that I found him 8 plus years ago! His staff is wonderful too always very helpful and always make you feel like you're the only patient they have .
Dr Downing is a doctor that really cares and really listens to you and and tries to find a solution to whatever your alment might be a Doctor' like him is very hard to come across now a days !!

Dr. Downing is many things: First and foremost, he is a great physician. He went to a great medical school, did his residency in internal medicine, and was chief resident. He has many years in practice giving him great depth and breadth of experience. Every time I call, and for any reason, he always finds time to see me. He has chosen to be part of the MDVIP program and that makes seeing him so easy. He truly cares about his patients, and perhaps partly due to his association with the MDVIP program, develops relationships with each. His office hours are convenient and his office location is an easy commute. He and I coached soccer for a few years, and were personal acquaintances before I saw him as my primary physician. He has been a big influence in my well-being; he is an attentive listener, attends many continuing education events and explains very well the information I need to know.
