My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

I love spending time with my patients, getting to know them, earning their trust and guiding them towards healthier lives. I take pride in helping keep people healthy, emphasizing wellness and prevention, using medication judiciously and engaging a network of specialists and advanced services, when needed. I have come to appreciate that participating in a personalized health care model that brings patients and doctors close together again is one of the most important health care decisions a person can make. Similar to concierge medicine practices, I also offer conveniences like same- or next-day appointments that start on time.

I am board-certified in internal medicine and have been practicing primary care in Rhode Island for more than 20 years.  I am experienced in all aspects of outpatient and inpatient internal medicine. I am affiliated with Rhode Island and Miriam Hospitals and speak fluent Greek.

I invite you to experience the difference between a traditional volume-driven primary care practice and a practice that delivers individualized, conscientious care without time pressures.

Testimonials from patients of Dr. Johnson

At age 77, I am very fortunate to be in great health and enjoying an active life with my wife, children, grandchildren and friends. Dr. Michael Johnson, my internist for over 15 years, has definitely contributed to my overall health and lifestyle capability. He has a remarkable combination of extensive medical knowledge and strong interpersonal skills that inspire trust and confidence. Dr… See more

Though I have many wonderful Dr. Johnson stories I will share just one. Two years ago my wife and I were on vacation. After day one of our trip I developed a very upset stomach. I went to see two different doctors, both ran a number of tests and both concluded that I must have some sort of food poisoning. When we returned home and I still was not feeling well I went to see Dr. Johnson. Dr… See more

I was extremely ill in 2003 and had been misdiagnosed and needed serious help. I found Dr Johnson by asking who the best was in Providence and multiple people recommended Dr Johnson. He helped get me to diagnostician clinic and get back to health. I have lived in UK and 4 states but always keep Dr Johnson as my primary and love his new practice. Saying that, his level of care and knowledge… See more

Dr Johnson treats the entire patient. He is concerned about their physical well-being and their mental health. His care is delivered with conversation and compassion.

from Cynthia in RI March 12, 2020 for Michael P. Johnson, MD

Sometimes it is the acute events that make us appreciate our doctor’s care and attention the most. For me, however, it is Dr. Johnson’s (and his wonderful colleague, Vanessa!’s) on going responsiveness and his ability to answer questions intelligently but with patience and compassion, that has meant the most since I joined his practice. It is such a relief to know that he is there and will be… See more

I have lost track of how long my husband and I have been patients of Dr. Johnson's. He is wonderfully attentive and down to earth physician. I did have a recent issue where I had to contact Dr. Johnson. My husband and I received the terrible news that a family member was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Needless to say, we were stunned. Dr. Johnson has supported us so much during this… See more
