About Michael D. Zang, MD
The renowned Johns Hopkins physician Sir William Osler said, "The good physician treats the disease; the great physician treats the patient who has the disease." This encapsulates my philosophy as a doctor. As your personal physician, together we will manage your health in the context of your individual goals and challenges with an emphasis on prevention.
In my first 3 years of medical practice over 20 years ago, I worked and lived in a small town in western Maryland. My home was a few hundred yards from my office in the hospital; my patients were literally my neighbors. I learned to see my patients not as lab values or medicine lists, but as people. The pace of a small-town medical practice taught me that when physicians take the time to listen, the patients often guide us to the solutions. Our patients' stories matter: it directly relates to their health outcomes.
During my 16 years practicing in Baltimore before starting as an MDVIP-affiliated physician in Catonsville, I sadly watched the practice of primary care change, emphasizing quantity healthcare rather than delivering the quality health outcomes seen in MDVIP-affiliated practices. It took great effort maintaining the "whole person" care philosophy instilled in me from that small town.
Joining MDVIP has allowed me to practice healthcare for patients and physicians where we can take the time needed to optimize your health. Together we will methodically and thoroughly address the drivers of health. Similar to conveniences often associated with concierge medicine practices, I also offer same- or next-day appointments that start on time. While the COVID pandemic has done immeasurable damage, it reminds us of the great importance of solid patient-doctor relationships and healthy life habits. Personally, I practice mindfulness daily and am working towards running a full marathon. MDVIP's emphasis on personalized preventive care places you in a position to be healthier even when unexpected challenges arise.

Reviews from the web

He and his partner Dr. Adrian St.Martin, conducted a broad search and found a replacement internist for their practice, Dr Michael Zang. When Dr Reisinger told me that he would be using Dr Zang as his primary internist that sold me and we continued with the MDVIP practice now seeing Dr Zang. We are extremely happy and pleased for the past two years to be under the care of Dr Zang. He is very very bright, knowledgeable about his and related fields and has an excellent bedside matter and willingness to take time with his patients. The office staff, one who is new and one who remained have also continued to be top notch, very competent and helpful.

Frequently Asked Questions
Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.
Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.
MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
